Yes, In California also. I remember going to the range every Saturday and shooting for points and in contests. Now, they all buy had to shut the doors on that range. No one does that and no one teaches or passes that down to their children. We are quickly becoming a state of city dwellers. Where in other states, the parents are taking their children out hunting and passing it down. THAT is what is happening across the US.

My jacket till I was 11 or 12. Shot a lot laying down .... didn't I! :chuckles: I remember not allowing my Mom to wash it! It would have been like starting all over!!!!

Here in CA. shooting is almost a thing of the past. (almost)

My Neice teaches high school in Utah. She told me that they make and announcement on the intercom at school to remind them that hunting season starts this weekend!!!

That's the difference!!!

In NJ Hunting is still big, but shooting teams no longer exist. PA still has some, but every year there are less and less due to budget cuts. There is an over abundance of soccer fields. If they would just turn some of them into public shooting ranges maybe shooting sports would make a comeback. The old if you build it they will come.

It is annoying seeing great deals on Black Rifles only to realize you have to spend a couple hundred to make it CA, CT, NJ, NY, etc legal. That's what got me into Milsurp collecting. Bought my first and only AR-15 (have a AR-10 platform too thanks to this forum) for $600 then spent another $250 before I could bring it home.

We still have a few youth shooting teams that are school sponsored. Of course, now they shoot mostly air gun. We do see folks carrying on public transit here. We still have public shooting ranges for firearms and archery. I'm not certain how things are in Maricopa County, but Pima County Parks and Recreation operates five range facilities-three firearms range facilities and two archery ranged. The archery ranges are colocated with two of the firearms ranges in the Tucson area. The third firearms range is at Ajo, Arizona.

We also see a fair number of folks using their right to open carry. I noticed a fellow at the Carl's Jr. wearing a Glock with an extended barrel at lunch today. No one cared that he was carrying (or that I was for that matter). I just happen to prefer to carry concealed. Only place I can't carry is work-secure court facility. That said, if anything were to go down, all we have to do is press the panic button. Do that and you get an armed response in about thirty seconds max.

My brother is a college professor at University of Utah. When he first started there, one of the things they were told as new staff was where they could carry and store their firearms on campus. He was cool with that. He doesn't carry that I know of, but likes having the options to do so. There the state law clearly states that colleges and universities that get public funding from the state must permit faculty to carry and store firearms on campus.

Here in Arizona, many government facilities that prohibit firearms have facilities to check your firearms at the security screening station. Our superior court has lockers at each public entrance and the lockers are staffed by security at all times that the building is open.

I live in good old Illinois. I live way south of Chicago, near St Louis. No silencers or SBR's but other than that we are ok. Stupid foid card. You have to show it to look at ammo or guns. I have my C&R so some of the dumb stuff I don't have to follow. Oh, and they have some law about private sales too. Dumb.

What annoys me the most about California's gun laws is actually one of the least significant, the 10 day waiting period even for owners of dozens of guns.

Here in Maine State Constitution states" the right to bears arms shall never be questioned." 1911A1 GVt. 185 grain hp, 8 round Mec Gar Mag does the job. Otherwise CZ75B SA with HP, Mec Gar 17 rds one in chamber works almost as well. Jackson range 20 miles. Rifle, Pistol, Gauge. Or dooryard. Carry everyday all day. "God made all men and Col. Colt made them equal." God Bless America Pro Libertate Patria
