Restrictive State Gun Owners
Restrictive State Gun Owners
Hello!
Just wanted to open a talk about gun owners living in restrictive states, I live in Connecticut which is a very restrictive state we have the stupid hi cap mag ban, bans on a lot of "assault weapons" and many other stupid laws. Tell me about your state and some of the laws that you feel go against your 2nd amendment rights. Even if you don't live in one of these states tell us where you're from! it would be cool to get a sense of where everyone is from on here!!!

Pretty much anything goes here in KY. I once bought a Swedish Mauser, ammo, a pack of cigarettes, a sandwich, bag of chips, a Coke and a case of beer at the same store with one swipe of the credit card. We can have machine guns too, with the proper federal paperwork. We have shall issue CCW as well. Not much to complain about.

I am in Florida and I am fine with our laws. Some folks get their panties in a wad because we don't have open carry, but I wouldn't carry openly if we did. As a state, we play host to the tourist of the world, they finance our living and keep our taxes low. Most of the foreign tourist would be scared shitless to see Bubba packing like a cowboy. I get it, and I am fine with it. If my state had laws I could not abide by, and couldn't get changed, I would leave.

Re: Restrictive State Gun Owners
TN is a decent state as well. Shall issue CCW, and relatively prompt at that. No minimum waiting period to purchase. And at least where I am a moderate hunting/outdoors/shooting culture. Prices on all kinds of items and supplies seem to be well below average as well.
My only complaints where I am located would be that I don't have anything over a 50 yard range convenient to me and that there do not seem to be many milsurp fans near me. But you can't have everything!

Re: Restrictive State Gun Owners
Ohio is a very gun friendly state. Open carry, CCW and as long as you are not drinking alcohol yourself you can carry in a restaurant or bar. We have a law making it's way through to make it so if you do carry in a posted place by accident you can be asked to leave instead of meeting Mr Policeman. Another law to come soon is if you get pulled over by Mr Policeman you do not have to declare you are carrying, I don't really know how I feel about this one, I do not want to become an accident.

Re: Restrictive State Gun Owners
Very gun friendly here in Mississippi also, open carry and concealed without a permit. Take a 8 hour course and
you can apply for an enhanced carry permit that allows you to carry with fewer restrictions. If you do have a permit
most shops will waive the NICS check, just fill out the form lay your money down and walk out the door. Hidden
in an automobile has been legal for years as the state considers it an extension of your home. Open carry and
concealed without a permit are both recently passed laws.

Come on over! Cost of living is also pretty good, and the eastern part of the state, pretty much anything east of Nashville, has some nice scenery.42izzy9130 wrote:All reasons why I moved across the border outta Commieforniastan. Lotsa places were the gun laws are less restrictive but they are all too hot, too humid, too many bugs, footless animals, and crawling animals that eat people.

We have most of the above in abundance. Where we are is noticeably less humid than the western part. But compared to CA that is like saying the frying pan is cooler than the fire!Junk Yard Dog wrote:Lotsa places were the gun laws are less restrictive but they are all too hot, too humid, too many bugs, footless animals, and crawling animals that eat people.

I'm with you on that JYD one thing I like about NJ is no poisonous spiders that will kill you, only poisonous snake is in the Nortwest Corner and Pine Barrens, Bears and Coywolfs are getting worse but I have only seen one bear in all my life in Central NJ. No Earthquakes, Mud Slides, Tornadoes, or Killer Bees. Hurricanes usually weaken before they get here (Sandy was a Super Storm).Junk Yard Dog wrote:Lotsa places were the gun laws are less restrictive but they are all too hot, too humid, too many bugs, footless animals, and crawling animals that eat people.
However for bad gun laws we have some of the worst.
No CCW; except for Ex-Leos.

Re: Restrictive State Gun Owners
Arizona is paradise for gun owners as far as laws and culture go. If it gets too hot in the summer, you can go up in the mountains to cool off. Any firearm that's okay with the Feds is okay with the state. No permit to carry concealed or open carry-permits are issued for NICS purposes and carrying out of state where the AZ permit is recognized and are "shall issue". Plenty of places to go shooting-several ranges around town here. Some are clubs that allow day shooters and a couple are parks and recreation facilities. If you own enough land, you can shoot on your own property.

Re: Restrictive State Gun Owners
Connecticut is a crappy state for gun owners for sure! You know for self-defense we are supposed to try to retreat in our home before use of deadly force which I think is really stupid! Like obviously you would be able to tell a threat and if they are threatening your life, so I guess I meet the intruder at the front door and try to run away into the bathroom hahaha also shoot to kill! I have heard lots of stories of an intruder breaking into your house and getting hurt and suing the homeowner, how screwed up is that?!? For me, I want to get into the AR or AK platform, it's not full auto or anything crazy like that just semi auto which is totally fine but we have to buy pre ban and pay a minimum of like $1600 just because. I can go on buds gun shop and they have a Ruger 556 which is something I would want its like 599 but nope in CT I have to spend $1k more it is terrible. The stupid state govt also wants to raise the cost to get and keep a CCW Permit by 300% that is outrageous! Now mind you when it was all said and done when I first got my permit it was around 350 bucks between the class and all the fees and charges, I need to move to a more gun friendly state for sure. They are always scheming up something to take more and more of us CT residents 2nd amendment rights away.

Re: Restrictive State Gun Owners
They do that and anyone wonders why some people obtain a black market firearms and shut up about it? The more restrictive a state is the easier it becomes to get anything you want. I know there is a brisk traffic in such weapons in this state, it's on two levels, one is gun owners swapping things between each other, the other is the criminal underworld providing them. Drug dealers are not hard to find and they will know who to go to to get what you want. Risk is minimal so long as someone isn't acting like John Wayne swaggering down the street with the gun printing clearly for the world to see. In a lockbox were it can be reached in case of dire emergency, not being able to practice with it would be a problem to me but some people wouldn't anyway. The biggest problem is mouth, people love to boast about their shit, more than once I have had to invite people to shut the fuck up. Communist states make criminals out of their citizens by restricting their constitutional rights. I have zero problem with anyone who wants to keep a gun legal or not, that's their business not mine. I just have a problem with the ones who talk about what they have secreted away and possibly endanger others, and maybe provoke even more restrictive legislation.

$350???
Its been a while, but I think that when I got my permit, it cost me about $160 for the class and the permit. Arizona only charges $60 for the initial permit and $43 for renewal. Biggest hassle is that the Arizona Department of Public Safety will only accept bank checks or money orders for fee payments. Then again, Arizona only looks to cover the actual cost of providing the service. I also deal with DPS in an official capacity as a government agent with non-criminal justice agency criminal records checks. As far as I know, they're the one government agency in the state that actually has lowered some fees. They used to charge us $24 to do the criminal records check. Now we pay $22 pet application.[/quote]
Yeah, its outrageous here that was with a $100 Class 25 for fingerprints and the rest of the process, they make us pay almost 100 to get a town permit back, then you take that to the state troop barracks and pay another 100 altogether then you finally have a state of CT pistol permit. Our governor wants to raise all that up by 300% to cover the hole in the state budget that they made by giving money away to companies and spending their budget foolishly which it's not us regular citizens fault and we barely see any of those fees and our taxes back it sucks! and to renew I believe every 5 years it's 70 so not as bad but they want to raise renewing it to upwards of 300 bucks like screw you seriously lol You would think to pay all this money to renew and get a permit you would get access to a bunch of cool toys and such, nope we can't purchase much of anything, we can't buy any new AR's all pre ban, and its like a monopoly a 600 AR most of you guys could get for me I would have to find a similar Pre Ban upwards of $1500 its crazy

Re: Restrictive State Gun Owners
I live in AZ which is ranked number for gun ownership. To show how things have changed. I grew up in NYC. When I was in High School most of them had shooting teams. Not uncommon to see a kid on public transportation with his rifle case.
