Summer 28-30

Post by Pahtu »

Was aggressively pursuing the years of 28-30 production these past couple years & found this rifle for sale on auction, placed a bid and won!

The rifle has strong shiny rifling, has its share of dings, some from issue, some from poor import handling. I almost sold this one....but could not!

Enjoy the pics!

That is such a great looking war horse. You always have such great looking photos and capturing "the look" of the Finn rifles.

That is a fantastic rifle Pahtu! I would be very disappointed if you wound up selling that one, well unless you sold it to me that is. I love the character on that rifle, well used and shows it's battle scars. Early bird 28/30, stock has the remnants of the wood cross bolt, fantastic rifle all around!

Thanks! It is fun when you get a chance to see em in good light, the camera allows one to see things you miss when you handle em.

The rifle looks very similar to one I bought for under $40 30 years ago and was my range Mosin for a couple of decades. I went and checked, it's still there so you are in the clear .

This one cost me quite a bit more than that, but I did find a 1938 28-30 for 95 bucks about 12 years ago, tis a joy to own, esp at a decent price. Back in the late 1980's, I was into cheap Swedish Mausers and Chinese SKS's, locally you could buy a SKS and IIRC a 1200 round case of 7.62x39 ammo for a hundred bucks as well.....I sure do wonder what I missed at the shows back in the day....

I remember the Chinese SKS glut, you couldn't get away from them, AK's also. I only bought a few that were actual military surplus or vet bringhomes, my focus was on bigger and better things at the time. Garands, M1903's, US M1917's, M1 carbines, Krag's, trapdoors, Enfields, Mauser's, Arisakas. Carcanos, Berthiers, Lebels, Martini's, Vetterlis, Mosins, and so on.

Never got into the above Military rifles, but did have a M1 Carbine or two, one IIRC an Underwood, the other Inland? They were a hoot to shoot, had at the time a Ruger old model Blackhawk in .30 carbine as well, packed em both when hunting jackrabbits, and when bad guys lurked about....:)

Got some old rifles inherited from the family....I should post pics if interested....they are in poor shape, as were stored in a brick lined hideaway in the old house for decades.....
