Re: Storing "too many" in the safe
The worry isn't the weight of the safe, it's a safe, you want it to be heavy. The worry is the ability of the chosen part of the house to support the weight.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

My 28 gun safe about broke my back getting into the house. That 80 would be killer.

Re: Storing "too many" in the safe
I like getting the smaller (28 gun) safe as they are more manageable and easily fit through doors. Cheap enough to buy more as you fill them up. I have a few of the winchester safes from TSC.
In this thread. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... 05&t=28699 you can see how i packed 37 rifles into a 28 gun safe. The rifles are all ok as i recharge the desiccant every few weeks.
I prefer the desiccant over the heating rods. Most gun shops sell them but here is one on amazon.

Only have 30 so not a problem. Can do 5 a day. Harder in summer with sailing and shooting at range and other chores. God Bless America . Pro Libertate Patria.

Re: Storing "too many" in the safe
Everything (well almost everything) is in the garage in the safes. But there are a few I use all the time or what I call "Overflow" (or no safe room).
For the overflow I use the old "under the bed safe!!!
It's what happens when all the safes are full and I just can't bring myself to buy another safe when I can buy 2 or more rifles!
So I call it "over flow"! Don't worry, the room it very safe and secure.

The rest of the over flow go on the walls in that same room.

Re: Storing "too many" in the safe
I got mine pretty well stored in my two safes...
My issue was bullpups. Even short guns like my Beretta CX4 or D/I AR45 were propped up to catch the RifleRods... but my 16" Tavor or KSG weren't doing it.
In my Fatboy, Jr, I used to have some documents, weapon lights, NRA coins, checks, and a 10/22 Takedown in its bag on the top shelf. Put the Takedown in a different spot (my trap gun sits on top of my safe in a case, so tossed it in a similar location), moved some stuff around to fit the bullpups, and still have a partially built AR lower up there.
