The only way for him to protect himself, at this point, is to make the rifle sleep with the fishes. You can't completely erase all of the changes from a forensic scientist.

This is probably similar to the rifle he completely ****** up. So now he has lost $400.00 for the rifle, several hundred for the dies, his time doing the work and his worry about being found out. On the positive side for him, he now knows all of his errors and will do a better job next time. It may have been a cheap apprenticeship.

Or the guy can keep it for himself and always tell himself he is the proud owner of a rare 1700.00 rifle. In 10 years he can pretend it's worth 2700.00, and so on and so on and......

Problem is one day he will drop dead and the rifles will be up for auction someplace by people who have no idea it's a fake selling to buyers who have no idea the former owner was playing games. We know him now, but what happens when he reappears five years from now with a new gunbroker handle, or he shows up at one of the shows as just another anonymous seller with a real cool rifle he inherited from his grandfather and has to sell to pay for his sick child's medical bills. This asshole is just one, one who got caught this time, there are many like him and have been for some time. Nothing you can do except educate yourself as much as possible about what you collect, keep your eyes wide open and listen to that voice in your head when it tells you something is too good to be true. Walk away if there is any question about somethings legitimacy, and for fucks sake if you get a vibe off the seller that feels the slightest bit wrong walk away. Very few of these humpers are also good confidence men, they are just idiots with a stamp set and limited knowledge about what they are saying or doing. Get them face to face and they can't truly hold it together and run a smooth con. These are small time operators thinking they can make a quick buck, they lack the ability to lie to your face and make you believe it, they aren't the sort who inspire trust in others, they do not have the gift of gab. You want that sort of con man then you better start collecting early Winchesters, or Colts, that sort of thing were real money in on the table.

I have a question along these lines; do you believe Eisel when he says something is guaranteed to be original? I know he is well-known to just about everybody on GB. I have heard "beware of the gray blanket" on here before, because his stuff frequently goes insane.
I know that, somebody like him, who sells thousands of items, wouldn't even have time to alter items if he wanted. I have no concerns about that, but do you think he knows what he's talking about?
I have bought a few items from him. A buddy of mine and I actually met him at a show once. On 1 item, I was the only bidder, for about a $10 item. How often does that happen?
Im not trying to defame anyone. But, I figure that he is well-known enough for others on here to have an opinion. For instance, you can take a retailer like Classic. It is well known on here that the general consensus is to avoid them.
With him---I just wondered. Knowledgeable people might say avoid his stuff, or they might say you can pretty much buy with confidence, even though you'll probably pay too much.
Any thoughts?

Grey Blanket is hit and miss. I have bought some good items from him and I have seen some really bad items sold by him. His problem is he doesn't spend enough time vetting his items and sells a lot of fakes. His solution is to give a full refund including shipping so he never gets a negative. If he would vet his items more than his reputation would be much better.

I bought five or six rifles and shotguns off of him over the years, all was as represented and if I bought them you can bank on it that I didn't overpay. At least two Turk Mauser's, a real nice American Gun co double 12 bore sidelock hammer gun, early Izhevsk M1891 Mauser, and a cool little Remington single shot 12 bore from the 1890's. There was probably other stuff that I have forgotten, I know I bought some non gun things off him but I can't remember what. You can bet that if there had been any issues I would remember, that sort of thing I don't forget, just ask Classic. I don't make a habit of monitoring his sales, I haven't even look them over in more than a year, but I don't recall any red flags or anything out of the ordinary in his listings except the prices he gets for some items. He didn't invent that gray blanket shit either, I did, I was using an gray East German army blanket as a background for items I was selling or displaying well back into the 1990's. Must be something about the color because it was magic for some of my sales also.
