Carcano
Who has a Carcano 6.5? Tell me how you like it, it's good, bad, and ugly. I know that was the choice for a Marine sniper to Kill our President in '63, which says a lot, thats about all I know about them. I found the enblocs, the ammo, have not bought the rifle yet. Yes? No?

They are nice, just make sure you clean the bolt. If not, engaging the safety might turn the bolt handle.
Personally, I like the Type I version. Chambered in 6.5mm Japanese, using a regular magazine instead of enbloc clips.

Bought one on a whim, wasn't sure after the first time shooting it. good bark, kicks a little more than I thought it would. Nice clean little rifle looks great, functions well, just found some more ammo and clips for it yesterday. Will be shooting it with some original style ammo soon to see how it shoots and decide after that.
The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.

Re: Carcano
It's a rifle like any other military bolt action rifle. All the never fired and only dropped once WW2 anti Italian propaganda aside there is nothing wrong with the Carcano.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Carcano
I didn't realize that PPU was making 6.5 Carcano ammunition. I've passed on a few 7.35x51 Carcano's because I like to shoot what I own. I'll have to pick up a 6.5 Carcano if I ever come across one.

Re: Carcano
I just received a nice Model 1938 carbine. Haven't shot it yet, but just got the clips for it. It's all original and the bore looks great. Only item missing is the cleaning rod. Action feels a little rough compared to other rifles, but it works. The stock has very deep inletting for the food under bayonet-no chance of sticking your hand as long as the locking mechanism works.
The most noticeable thing to me is the weight. The carbine is very lightweight-well constructed but light compared to similar rifles. The M44 is a boat anchor compared to the Model 1938.

Re: Carcano
We took in a Carcano Troop Special,( The bottom one in JYD's picture ? ), in to the shop late last week. I have an M38 and a M91. I have shot the M91 but haven't gotten around to shooting the M38. Combining the M38's 6.5 ammo and a skinny buttplate this little rifle can bite you if not shouldered correctly.
