How am I going to remove the rivet without ganking up the outside of the mag? Drills slip, grinders drift and chisels mar....

Drill it out, and use epoxy to fill and match the color.

Can't really tell from the pics where the rivet is. But take a center punch and punch the rivet so you have a spot for the drill bit to sit then drill it out..

Those rivets are pretty cheap. Being Canadian, my guns are all pinned at 5 rounds and very easy to return to full capacity. Depending on what you have on hand, drill out the center of the rivet or cut the rivet from the inside of the mag with a small hacksaw blade. It shouldn't be a challenge at all. The actual hole they drilled is quite small so fixing it may not be worth it. Up to you...

Drill press and clamps to hold the mag in place.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
