Finally made it to the range and it was great!

This is my first Makarov so I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I really enjoyed it. It has a really fast recoil? Hard to describe but it wasn't a bad thing, just different from other semi-autos that I've shot. It was almost like it's really more spring-reliant and less about the slide weight. I put around 200 rounds down range and didn't have a single failure of any kind! I was amazed, it ate hollow points like it was nothing as well.

It's very accurate too, the fixed barrel and sights seemed to be nearly dead-on.

I also was using the one Bulgarian mag that came with it and two soviet mags and had no issues there either!

It was a great range day!

That is not true. You can buy anything C&R outside the state. Getting it back inside is the problem. You have to declare it withing 15 days.

Have you or anyone else tried this?
Yes, I have bought in Arizona and Utah. Nevada guys get nervous, so I don't do business with them at all.

Here is the place to ask your question and get "straight" answers. Ask them if you can buy a C&R handgun (if you have a COE also) and bring it back into the state or not. If you don't have a COE .... Then no you can't. Without a COE (State) your C&R license is useless.

Being in Calif, they know their stuff.

Thanks Dolk, I have been looking through the Calguns site and see that there is a lot of confusion about many matters here in the Golden State. I have the FFL 03 but stopped with the COE. That seemed too much trouble & expense for the few guns my budget would allow. I have been putting my money & effort into plans to move out of the state to a freer state.

So - I'm off to OR in a few weeks to visit a pal and look the place over for possible relocation. I have the FFL 03 but no COE. If I can pick up two or three C&R milsurps I would like to do so.

You best check out the firearms laws on Oregon before you move there. Oregon is about 10 minutes shy of being CA.

This is my biggest worry. I have been monitoring the situation for three years in OR and it has been rock solid so far. Like VT, the state is run by hippies but there has been no progress on the "gun control" front. When I was last in OR a year ago, a gun store owner walked me through the procedure to buy a gun IF I was an OR resident. I could live with it.

The worry is that things could always change and with hippies running the place, the slippery slope to disaster might be steep.

If you have info that things are worse than I think or are likely to go south in the future, please let me know.

Oregon's saving grace may be that many of the residence in OR are California transplants. That is somewhat why they hate us! But most of the people leaving here in CA and going to OR are avid gun owners. One of the reasons they are leaving CA.

In fact, one of the guys at work yesterday announced he was quitting and moving to OR. He came and told me a lot of the reason was because of CA and their gun laws. He was tired of it.

So they have a pretty good sized gun culture up there. They like their hunting (which is something that is dying off here in CA every year). No one teaching the next generation. Oregon is spared some of that.

Just my opinion.

The OP had wanted pics of Makarovs. I suggest getting a wonderful book called The Makarov Pistol by Henry C. Brown & Cameron S. White. I just got my copy from Amazon a week or so ago and have been pouring over it looking for details about the Maks I have and also about the holsters and other bits. Here is the book:
The Makarov Pistol.jpg
In looking through the section on the East German Maks, I found reference to the marking in the center of this picture:
Mak_E_Ger-03.jpg
It is hard to make out on the pistol without a glass but it tells a bit of the history of this particular gun. It indicates that this Pistole M was taken into service after the collapse of communism by the Landpolizei Sachsen-Anhalt. They were only in service there for a short time between the collapse in 1989 & 1986 when I purchased it at a local gun store in SoCal. It was made in 1960 and saw very little service anywhere, it looks new but for light holster wear.

I completely agree with this. There is another factor. In the big cities the hippies reign supreme. They want to "Keep Portland Weird." Out in the countryside away from the cities folks are closer to the land, farming, ranching and reality. The culture is very different. The area I'm interested in is Klamath Falls and it is a place that values freedom & guns as much as I do.

It IS still in OR and I have my fears that the idiocy that has infected CA and so much of the USA may reach there too.
