"american caputered" sniper

Post by LRS23S »

So the story goes that this was an American bring back from Europe.....I dont know about the probability of that happening. I wish I had capture paperwork the family member said its 100% accurate. I find issues with the story though. the scope is /25\ stamped so I would say that the scope is not part of what was captured and fitted post war.
I will update this post with more pictures i have slow internet

It has import marked serial number. Mount looks fake. I'm going with 99.9% full of Bologna

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit Typical of what people try and pull with these fake snipers.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

If this is a family member trying to sell you this you need to show them what happens out behind the woodshed.

Never ever buy the story when buying a firearm. Just buy the firearm.

Also i would like to know what makes the mount a fake....is it due to there not being any marks on it. I have read where there was a machining difference in reproductions....any additional info would be great.

What the other members said . In addition with the rifle's receiver still proudly wearing it's original war-time expedient "rough" metal finish it had never been a genuine WWII sniper rifle.

Small round machined swirls on the reverse of the scope mount is Tula.

Large round machined swirls on the reverse of the scope mount is Izhevsk.

No swirls on reverse of mount = Fake

So the mount matches the info you guys have about being real....the bottom of the mount and the machine marks match the real mounts....i was told that this was an original mount. the only thing is the electripencil is not on the mount. I think this is goning to be fun decoding. Again thanks for the help all. I will get some photos of the bottom of the mount up for you guys to see. On another note I was told that war time production didnt always allow for time to have things marks, is this true?

The mount could be one of those fakey aluminum mounts. Kinda looks like a casting. Is the mount steel or aluminum? The Soviets never made aluminum mounts, regardless of what anyone says.

OK, That would be WWII and we didn't fight the Russians, so it wouldn't be a "captured" rifle unless taken from a German who had it (which would be a very rare thing). Last I remembered, we didn't fight the Russians! I know some wanted to at the end of WWII. I some how doubt that the US high rankers would allow anyone to "bring home" a Alli's rifle (Russia). I don't think that was allowed.

I also saw the mount and questioned it. Looks very questionable. Way too smooth, and wrong color on finish.

On the side of the receiver is the serial number SZH4662. That is a translation of the serial number on the top of the barrel shank. That would indicate that was put on during import to the USA. That is a USA requirement during import. That wouldn't be there if it was a "bring back". Bring back didn't require import marks placed on the receiver like that and that is not a Russian mark. Oops.

Also, very rare to see a "sniper rifle" with "rough finish on the receiver". Very rare.

The base is questionable to me also. If it is real, show some marking on it.

Here is the serial number the importer was required to put on the receiver. This alone make the hole story BS and the seller is trying to scam the buyer.

Welded bolt knob. This proves this is a fake bubba "sniper"

Dont even waste your time with this seller.
