Yugo SKS

Thinking about getting a Yugo SKS... Looking for any minus... Yeah Non-chromed but is that a bug deal if I keep the rifle clean and oiled..

Yugo SKS

Chrome lining is not that big a deal if the bore is already good and you clean it properly in my experience. I recently traded for a 59/66 and love it so far. Mine was still in cosmoline so cleaning that was a job. Once cleaned up, I found that the metal parts looked great. It looked to me like it had never been used. You might find one like this as well which could be fun.

I love mine, just picked it up in December of last year. I used to not really like the looks of the Yugo but it's grown on me. The non-chrome lined bore isn't that big of a deal. Like you said, keep it clean and oiled, it won't be a problem.

One of our advertisers, SOG, has unissued SKS's at a good price.

I have two, one nearly new with a shiny bore. The other pretty well used for a Yugo with some finish wear and a frosty bore. They both shoot the same, very well.

One issue that may not affect the recent Yugo refurbs is a leaky gas valve, some in the past have had issues with gas leakage due to a corroded gas valve or leaking gas tube. Usually this shouldn't be an issue with a refurb, it should be new or have been repaired in the process, again like what the others mention about the bore, clean the gas block, tube and valve correctly and there should be no issues. The only other minus is the little bit of extra weight due to the launching hardware, some people don't like it because it makes the weapon feel kind of nose heavy, especially compared with a non-launcher equipped SKS.

I love both my Yugo SKS's. In my non refurbed one it did have the leaky gas valve that Greasemonkey mentioned but that was a quick & easy $20 fix. The bore is a bit frosted & it doesn't shoot quite as well as my refurb Yugo but the Yugo is my favorite SKS & I actually like the extra weight. It just gives the rifle a much more solid feel than my Russian & some of the other flavors that I have shot. It took me a while to get Lotema converted over to the Yugo but I'm pretty sure he's happy he did. I saw him shoot a sub MOA group with it just this last weekend at the range. If I could afford it, I would spring for another one from SOG as Loncolt mentioned.

As Lotema demonstrates they can be LOOKERS and the looks can grow on you as well!
