I don't trust Remington ammunition anymore. I won't buy their .22 lr's for any reason and I've heard some real horror stories about their shot gun ammunition
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Turkish surplus works just fine in all my bolt Mauser rifles, but a bit hot for the Hakim's, the FN49 can handle it but I use Yugo surplus in them. I can and do pack my own before I pay for expensive commercial sporter rounds. Furry things die just the same if you shoot them with a space age modern marvel bullet or an 80 year old piece of pointy jacketed Turkish lead. The Old Timers would file off the surplus bullet tips until they were down to the lead core, this works only if the surplus round uses a lead core like US surplus does. The idea was it would give better expansion by mushrooming in the wound channel easier. Those old timers would have walked into town bareass before they would put cash on the counter for new commercial hunting loads. The tip thing was a trick they brought back from both world wars, it was considered dirty pool in the first war and could get you killed if the enemy found such ammo on you if you got captured, and illegal under the Geneva conventions prohibitions against hollow point type bullets in the second war. The Geneva convention doesn't extend to Bambie and Mr. Bear so break out the files and have at it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

You can also take a stout pair of wire cutters and snip off the end, save lots of filing. You can even drill a hollow point if you like, not necessary. I wonder what a steel core Mosin round would do. The jacket might peel back and make a penetrating jagged projectile, or it might just come off. I remember shooting some ammo back in the 70's that had a small X cut in the bullet tip, I don't remember what brand.

I say file but they probably just used a bench grinder.

Everything I have that's Reminton is 20-45 yrs old. Rifles, shotguns and ammo. Except for a few thousand .22 Golden bullets. no problem from any of it. I have heard the Express shotguns are crap and my son bought a 30-06 bolt/w scope synthetic and it's better than nothing I guess. I guess they moved to China like a lot of other Mfg. did. ##$%&***XXX NAFTA.

There is nothing wrong with Remington products and they have NOT moved production to China. They merged with Marlin firearms and there were some teething problems as they moved everything around but they are getting their shit together and honoring their guarantees when there is a problem with a rifle. The express is a budget shotgun like Mossberg's 88, they work but they are no frills and utilitarian, you get what you pay for.
