So I will admit I don't know much about Mosin's received one in the mail yesterday. It is a 192 dates Tula. No I didn't forget the 4th number because there isn't one. I broke it down quick and the tang had a 2 number date "28" with an upside down Tula hammer. I didn't snap a pic of the tang as I was covered in grease but I can show the receiver.
Welcome to the board, the commies could be sloppy about the markings, that's a 1928 Tula.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

JYD, please enlighten me. Is that what is called a "5 line" rifle?
Just the older Tula arsenal marking, 1928 was the last year for it before they started using the big star.

It's called a five-line Tula because there are 5 lines of text describing the armory. This stamping and variations was used between 1920 and 1928 to represent manufacture at the Tula arsenal. Prior stampings beginning in 1920 were similar with minor word changes but different acronyms representing Russia. Prior to 1923 the acronym was "Р.С.Ф.С.Р.". This "Five Line" version contained "C.C.C.P". Your rifle is fascinating because the last digit of the date is missing. As JYD says, sloppy stamping. Does the stock have prewar escutcheons? First one I've seen like this.

Wierd effects to say the least. I'm allergic to it. It makes me fall down.
They have this button you wear around your neck for when that happens, kind of like OnStar for people, you just press the button and say -I've fallen and I can't get up, somebody on the other end sends help.
