Just give me a heads up and let Alsky know too Billcapt14k wrote:We are about the same distance from Alsky hint hint.zeebill wrote:The stock I mentioned to both of you on the phone had a more or less standard M39 action in it when I found it by the way. I don't remember whether I mentioned that to either of you. It did not shoot well either, was not happy in that stock at all! Be interesting to get all this stuff together at one time and see what fits what if possible. Mine has the square cuts by the way. Bill

A friend in Finland managed to find a stock for the M/28-30 dated 1940 and M/54 rear diopter for my future M/28-57. For $330 shipped I think I did ok.
Just need a M/28-57 barreled action, turned down bolt, and front post for the rear diopter. I figure in about 20 years I may have a complete M/28-57.

Odd 1940 M28-30 Any Ideas?
Here are some updated before and after pictures. The 1940 M/28-30 has been returned to a proper 1940 M/28-30 stock. The M/28-57 stock will soon be reunited with a M/28-57 barreled action along with the M/54 diopter set which now has a front post to go with it, and lastly an original bent bolt I was able to procure from the man who made it himself at the Tourula Factory. The bore and finish on the M/28-30 is fantastic.
I noticed the M/28-30 stock has a W Mark which I know I've seen before but what also a looks like a number of some sort on it.
I do not believe the M/28-30 was put in the M/28-57 stock by the Finns. There was no bedding, pine needles, or any other signs it had been in the stock for a long time. Also the ease in which it came out tells me it was likely done by the importer. I hope putting the rifle back in a proper stock is not a violation of any rules. Obviously I am not doing so to increase the value of the rifle since the M/28-57 stock I believe has more value. If it is please let me know.
An odd note about the M/28-57 stock is there is zero protective finish on it. I assume it had to have been stained to get the look it has but it is as dull as can be. I'm not complaining because I like the look of the stock, but it is unlike any of my other stocks.
