Ball Press
Ball Press
I've had this 31 cal. Wells Fargo Colt Replica for some time now, haven't shot it in years because it's such a pain to load, so I came up with this for a cylinder ball press. Harbor freight watch press for $15 bucks and a little modification should work fine.

Nice repurpose! I've been planning to build a loading press for my two percussion revolvers. I do believe you just saved me a lot of time.

Re: Ball Press
Nice job, I have the one that came with my Uberti 1873 Colt cap 'n' ball revolver. It will handle .44's only.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Ball Press
I just do them by hand with a ball starter. Don't care much for carrying one of those press' around while shooting in the woods. After in the revolver, I seat them with the guns.

Re: Ball Press
Well I think this is about done, maybe a little overkill but I now can load all 3 cal's that I have 31, 36, and 44 in this press. 3 separate plates with a counter bore hole to fit the cylinders and a couple of arbor inserts to fit the ball and cylinders.

JYD,
Isn't that a Remington?
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Re: Ball Press
That is one of Piettas 1858 Remington target models, note the adjustable rear sight. I use the cylinder loader for all my '44's. I bought that Remington from a gunsmith who tuned the action so it's smooth as silk.
