Spend 40 years working with greasy engines in everything from chain saw's to heavy earth moving equipment and after the first few thousand messes you get used to it. One rule to remember is never pick up a milsurp when you are wearing your best clothing, that's just asking for it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I learned that along time ago, going to a gun show after church.....But it was totally worth it to get the deals I got back then.

I learned that the hard way. I went to the FFL on my lunch hour to pick up an M39 (which was a total mess of grease) and opened the box to get a look at it and promptly smeared a brown streak of cosmo across my dress shirt. :bonk: Well worth it to run home and change shirts and be late back to work than to have a streak across my shirt that I'd be explaining all day wasn't actually shit.

back when I used to give a damn I used to spend good money on clothes. Dicking around looking at a friends hotrod out back of the funeral parlor before we went in to pay respects to the departed. Got a nice oil smear all over a pale blue dress shirt and on my jacket. Fuckin Gorgio Armani, that suit cost more than a nice SVT40, I buttoned up, thanked God I went with the black, and remembered not to take my jacket off for the next four hours in a stifling hot room. Now I don't give a crap, off the rack is good enough, I only do Funerals anyway, when I get together with friends we dress casual ( read slovenly old farts )

I don't know how my wife manages to wear all white to a BBQ joint and can arrive home spotless.

Me, on the other hand, I learned long ago that all my shirts must be coffee colored or darker.

Unlike some of you, I gain NO therapeutic or relaxation value from cleaning cosmo caked rifles. Doing a good post range cleaning is good enough for me.

Maybe tomorrow I can hit the range....

I'm with you jaytex1969. A rifle has to be pretty special for me to buy it if it is covered in Cosmo or even worse Commie Grease.

Mainly cause I sit there jamming out to whatever music my iPod has selected for me, and keep muttering "cosmoline is our friend, cosmoline is our friend....I need a beer"

We could replace the Commandment about coveting thy neighbor's wife with that.

Agreed, besides gets the people talking!

On a side note, my parents are in the process of downsizing their home and have been sending back boxes of stuff they find of mine. In one, was all my old military surplus magazines. One even had an article concerning the Chinese T53. Made sure that went with me to work today to reread
