Re: Chinese SKS date?
Pictures would help greatly..
The 3 "A"s sound like a Factory 666 stamp, that's purely a guess off your description, again, a photo would clear that up.
I'm guessing it's possibly a short lug or most likely a press/pin fit barrel like an Ak, either way, it should have a spike bayonet. Without more info, a 1.8 million serial, early 70's.. 1973, if you go by the one method, it would be deemed un-dateable, except by defining features to get a rough time frame by another known method.
Now dating methods are still up in the air and are constantly being studied, debated, adjusted and hashed out. China has released no info on production or factories, so the reality, it's all a best guess.

I said I was an addict. I didn't say I had a problem.

Re: Chinese SKS date?
Thanks to Spongemonkey I hope we can send the pics of my SKS. The first picture is (top) My 1950 Russian, middle is the 1958 Romanin and last is my Chinese that I am asking information about. This carbine came without the spike bayontte which I added, sling which I changed the rivet leather ends to the more secure dog collar leather and added a repro. cleaning rod. All numbers match except the magazine Also took a pic of the beautiful laminated stock on the Russian. Thank You for any information, Jim
