Russian refurb

Post by steelbuttplate »

Hey guys, picked up a '51 Tula today, was the bolt blacked in the refurb on these? It looks new in the box, laminate stock, all matching. Photo's coming, might be good for a showcase sub if needed.

Russian refurb

Yeah if it has a black bolt they did that during the refurb. 51 is a good yeah though! I just recently got in to collecting sks rifles and I'm hooked. I've been learning a lot about them in the last 6/8 months. There is a guy on here called "Greasemonkey" he is extremely knowledgeable on SKS rifles I've learned a lot just from his posts. Also he is a heck of a good guy!

Greasemonkey probably just needs his monkey greased :shifty: When you get a Chi-com thats knee deep in rust and grease, spend 4 hours cleaning each part reassemble and get to smell the rifle burn off the grease and oil on the first 10 rounds, then your hooked. I stopped at a place to check ammo prices, this older gent had this rifle in his car. He asked what it was worth, I told him I'd give $400. My work pard and I just had $385. He said "I'll take it".........Look for this to happen more in Papers, Yard sales, as people get confident that we are safe and nobody's taking guns away. This man had bought it at a gunshow Early 90's and shot it 20 times. He's got some crates of ammo I've got to look at still .

Not a bad price  Greasy Chinese, food and rifles  I find the Chinese were not too overly greasy.. now a Yugoslavian, those are a slimy, sticky, stinking, seeping wonderful mess. Even the gas piston makes a cool sucking sound when you pop it out and the barrel looks like a grease gun exploded after shoving a patch through it.. That's grease :Drool1: :Drool1:

And why are you standing, looking at the ammo crates? :facepalm1:

Just get the green paper out of the billfold and pop the trunk.. no thinking, only loading. :chuckles:

Do you know what yr. these were at the gunshows? I'm wondering what kind on milsurp ammo he got with it, cans/cases he mentions. It would be cool if it's all yellow box norinco, but I guess Russian Surp? The JYD knows.

April 3, 1996 was it.. look up the Voluntary Restraint Agreement with Russia. There is a list of allowed weapons, any not on said list is/was prohibited. Ones such as the SVD, SVT, SKS were banned.

Yellow/green/silver/blue/white and black/even a reddish orange box I remember, Norinco/China Sports is ok, I have some floating round. It's just like every other massed produced ammo. Now, it's more of a collectors ammo, and boxes get collected, there are quite a few different packages. All the hoopla about armor piercing ammo is not true, it was just mild steel cored stuff, not much different than x54r steel core.
