JS 8mm Mauser ammo

Post by Witchdoctor »

Need some info about some ammo...found some ammo on line for 8mm Mauser at a pretty good price, but it says it is JS 8mm ammo, I'm getting conflicting reports from what I read on line...some say standard 8mm ammo is JS type, others say it will not work in a Yugo type Mauser, I have a 24/47. I see it's labeled as being.323 diameter and I get different readings on what my gun is, from .317 to .323 ? Not sure what the real story is on this ammo, it's a good buy if it will work, some help would be greatly appreciated!

It is good to go. Can't use in older Mausers for that you need .318 JR.

No problem. Most Gew98 were made for or upgraded to the JS ammo.

Some of the Gew88 were upgraded, but better safe to check to see if it is J or I (same thing)

All Yugo Mausers should be setup for the JS or IS (same thing) ammo.

Then there is the JR or JRS which is rimmed and for older single shot rifles.

Well I'm still confused, reading the questions from potential customers to the company's site and answered by the what seems to be the firearm guy there says it will not work, for any Yugo made types and specifically says no to the 24/47, so now what...how can I get confirmation?

I've always read JS IS is the proper ammo and I've always used it. I have a Yugo M24, M24/47, and M48. I've used the new production match ammo by PPU, the FN Surplus, and I mostly use what they call CIA contract ammo made in Canada. I've never had any issues.

What is the exact ammo you are talking about using and what exactly is it marked on the box?

It is sold at sportsman guide and is in an unlabeled (mfr) green box made in Romania, if you wanna check it out and look at the questions other customers have asked about it.

Whoever is answering those questions does not know what he is talking about. Says can be used in K98 mauser, but not Yugo or Czech Mausers. All Military Mausers in 8mm post 1905 were made for JS ammo .323.

I wouldn't use that ammoregardless. The lacquered case gums up the action. You can find good 8mm Mauser ammo for .60 a round. Check the forums and gunbroker. Joe may still have some on this forum.
