My second SVT 40

Post by Sonny »

I bought my first one about three years ago or so and my second one arrive in the mail a few days ago. Both are 1941 Tulas so you would think that they would be the same but they aren't.
One has a four port muzzle break and the other has a six.One has a cross bolt in the handgrip the other doesn't.One has sniper rails the other doesn't.
Anyone know why the differences?

I'll take it to the range in a few days when it's warmer.

Very cool!! What great looking rifles! Those differences make them more interesting. I can't wait to add one or two to my collection.

Fantastic SVTs! It's interesting that one of them doesn't have the scope rails on it, I thought that they all had them up until '42. Learn something new every day!

The crossbolt is to keep the stock from splitting, maybe a hairline crack started inside. The education on the ports will have to come from a higher knowledge. I don't have any Russian BAR s .......yet

Change in muzzle brake took place in late 1941. The link below has the most accurate SVT-40 faq I have seen. The only better info is a book written in Russian that was released last year.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

No problem. It is a lot of info to read through. Trust me it is easier than reading the book, unless of course one is fluent in Russian. I made it through about a dozen pages of the book before putting it down. Scanning and translating technology needs to improve a little more before I give it another shot.

I never used Chinese in mine. Is it light ball? I've had no issue with PPU. I won't use corrosive in mine because I haven't changed the gas system yet. Temporary change to stainless system just for shooting. Original will be kept and preserved.

Just standard select and the bore was pretty darn good.

btw I called P&D and complained about getting Chinese ammo in a Czech case. They thanked me for the call and agreed that if it is Chinese ammo it should be labeled so...bla bla bla.... look into it...bla bla bla..

Priv I have too. I never tried S&B but some other guys were just complaining about it. The best I found to be the Russian White Box non corrosive but I can rarely find it

I guess I'll buy one...
I passed on a sniper today so the wife won't be too mad if I spend less money!
Lever Arms = more fun

This is pretty good ammo too but I was told that 203gr is to heavy for a SVT 40 :vconfused:
