Pawn Shop Sears Shotgun

Post by tailgunner67 »

This is the latest firearm to follow me home from the pawn shop. I saw it Monday and thought it looked really nice, and I don't have a poly choke. Like most guns I own, some seem to love them and others hate them. I didn't buy it because I was warned before I left that I was "not supposed to buy any guns today". Lol, so I didn't. Then my lovely wife asked me Thursday night what I wanted for my birthday. I told her I had seen this old JC Higgins the other day and I really wanted it. So, not only did I get to buy it, she paid for it. They were asking $229.00. I offered $200.00 out the door and they took it.

After I got a better look at her it turns out it is a Ted Williams Model 200. It is in near mint shape. If this thing has been shot it was lightly. Very nice detailed wood and barely a scratch on the metal. Serial # P22****. If someone has a link to help me date it I would really appreciate it. I know this isn't a high dollar gun or a collector piece. I mostly buy guns because of the history of them. I am very happy with this one.

Not sure when these shotguns were sold by Sears, but I am thinking late 70's or early 80's. They are Winchester manufacture, I think. You should read this:

The Ted Williams name replaced JC Higgins in 1962. That 200 is a slightly modified Winchester 1200
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Use it correctly and it's a good workday shotgun, improperly handle it's safety and you could end up with an ND. To be safe don't use the safety at all, leave the slide open, and only close it when you are on target and prepared to fire, while doing so don't touch the safety on or off.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I will be careful with it. I just cleaned it and put it in a case. I am not going to try and make room in the safe tonight. I will tackle that tomorrow.
