Colt Expanse M4 Carbine

Post by tjtM38 »

Well, I finally broke down and got an AR. It is a Colt Expanse M4. I installed a Delton forward assist and ejection port cover. It has a Magpul flip up rear sight and a 1/3 coexistent mounted Vortex SPARC AR. It is a nice shooting rifle with a 1 in 7" twist barrel.

Only other black rifle I have is a Saiga-based Arsenal AK clone. The M4 seems a little lighter and handier.

I love my old milsurps, but black rifles hold a special place in my heart too.

  I guess they do. I thought the Colt might be the only one I ever own, but now I have the urge to build my own!

Congratulations! I've got a Colt LE6940 and am very pleased with how it shoots. It holds its own with most of the other ones on range day.

Two of mine are factory rifles, the other five are builds. Once you buy a stripped or complete lower they just keep breeding AR's in the safe. Don't believe me, just ask mogunner. :chuckles:

Is it really cost effective to build your own anymore? Just curious, since now Ruger and S&W have their low cost ARs available. I know they don't have all the bells and whistles, but years ago folks were building their own at a cost savings. Is that still true?

I believe it's still cost effective to build your own, especially by building the lower receiver. I don't see any savings in building an uppper, but building an upper is really about making it exactly what you want. I can build a better plain jane AR with better spec'd parts than the Ruger and S&W basic offerings, and save a hundred bucks or more in doing so.

I bought one when they first came out to steal the lower for another build cause it was an early one where it was still the 6920 lower before they started the new lower markings. Plan was to take the upper and put it on an Anderson manufacturing lower I had built for my wife.

Instead got a C marked upper, so planning on replacing the bcg and barrel to with Colt marked so I can have a M44 Block 1.5 like I carried. Until then, going to shoot the snot out of it

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine
