762x25 vs 763x25

Post by Witchdoctor »

Hello all, I've read that the 7.63x25 can be used in a Tok pistol as well as the 7.62x25 it is marked for due to the very minor difference in actual size and that it is not as powerful but not vise versa, does anyone know if this is true? I have an opportunity to get some at a good price for my M57 but wanna make sure it will shoot without any issues.

7.63X25 Mauser is slightly less powerful than 7.62X25 Tokarev, yes you can use either in a firearm chambered for the 7.62X25 Tok. But do not use the Tok. Round in pistols chambered for the Mauser round especially the broomhandle models, I've heard that the higher pressure round could cause eventual damage to those firearms.

If you would like to pick pieces of that Tokarev out of your forehead put the Mauser ammo in it. There is a shoulder difference as well as the diameter.

Concur. I am not sure there is any cost advantage in this practice that is worth the risk. 7.62x25 looks to be fairly plentiful, although surplus is getting a bit hard to find. I would stick with Sellier and Bellot or Privi-Paritisan (PPU) commercial ammo in the correct caliber just to be safe with the Tokarev.

Another tidbit...Hornady makes a 7.62X25 hollow point round. I had trouble getting it to feed in My Tokarev. I called them and was told it was made specific for a CZ 52. Lucky I had one also as the Hornady was expensive. Wolf makes a Hollow point round in 7.62X25 and it runs all day in the Tokarev.

I can't get any hollow points to feed in my Serbian.

Tell you what I'll do. You send me that Serbian and any ammo you have tried and I will do a detailed investigation on it. Don't forget to put in return postage as I hate to stand in lines.

I use the PPU JHP 762x25 in my M57 and it runs great, got some red army standard JHP in the other day I ordered but haven't tried it yet, the PPU is made in Serbia and I've had no issues, maybe your gun is a little picky.
