I remember all the bitching when Century put that serial number on the receivers. Then they started with that banner import mark and everyone started fondly remembering the "good ol' days" of the small markings. Nice M49.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I have seen the number touted of 14 Tikka M39s exist in America which I knew was BS. Bill has a few. I know another guy with 3. I am sure Alsky and JYD have a few. Djbuck and Dolk have one. Pahtu sold one. RiflesRoy sold a few. Saw two sell recently on gunbroker and one on gunboards. Burns sold one of them and I expect to see more in the future from them. That right there could easily be more than 14. Depending on if anyone here with one bought theirs recently or from RiflesRoy.

I think the number of Tikka M39s will only increase in the future as the prices continue to rise. The question then is how many were built here?

There were supposed to be around 5k Tikka M39s floating about out there somewhere. I have noticed quite a few over the years posted on Gunboards & posted for sale on the Wholesale G&A website - Never seen any in person in 15 or so years of collecting Mosins. Took this Tikka M39 to gun shows to see who knew what it was.....one person in 10 gunshows knew what it was & wanted to buy it, but this one was not for sale.

I bought it from the old Wholesale Guns & Ammo biz in NY, Saw it posted on their website years ago, called BB and chatted a bit, paid something like 475 some IIRC(and I was pretty broke dem days)...which was a princely some 12 years ago.

Seems IIRC, these were from cut down Tikka M91s, or spare barrels. Worried about fakes....? Easy, these should mostly have import stamps on the end of the barrels(any fakes & I never ever heard of folks faking these, would not have these import marked on the end of the barrels). IIRC, Aim, or another dealer or two got some from remaining stocks in Finland much later than the Burns or I.O./S.O.G. rifles & these could have import stamps on the receiver.

The really hard to find Tikka M39's are the 1920's dated ones, with up to 1942. Seem most of these are dated 1943.

5,000 Tilkka M39s were made? Or were imported?

I always worry about fakes once an item reaches a certain value.

The number made IIRC from reading mosinnagant.net is 5000, now what was imported is known only to the importers & they don't report none/if any of that. Burn reportedly had the lions share of the Tikka M39's, but IIRC some having the I.O. import stamp.

I just found this site for the first time.

http://foverbey.tripod.com/finnish_m39.htm

It states unkown number made and that they were made in the 1970s from cutdown 91s for reserves. Not sure if the info is accurate. Site states 3,000 B Barrel made so I would think it would be less or there were way less imported. I see the B Barrel fairly often for sale. Does Palokangas state how many made? I will have to check tomorrow.

I do remember many upon many folks posting B Barrel M39s on the forums & Burns posting & selling them on his website and Shotgun News ad's....IIRC 10,000 or so B Barrels were made from cut down M91s, with again an estimated 5000 B Barrel M91s left....making B barrel M91s kinda scarce & B barrel M39s more common.
