I've found that I generally have an easier time using blade and notch iron sights. I need to work some with the guns I have with aperture sights-specifically the M1. I've found that my Mosins are reasonably accurate at 100 yards, though a little compensation must be made for the difference between yards and meters. That said, the most accurate rifle I have is my M1886 M93 Lebel. Barrel length is 31 inches and the battle sight is set for 250 meters. It's only half an inch shorter than the original Mosin M1891 barrel.

the man is the sniper not the rifle. One takes the the rifle the other takes the ammo. When the one with the rifle is shot the one with the ammo picks it up. In the early part of the Great Patriotic War waves of soldiers ran across open fields. How accurate are you running across a field? If my 91/30 can hit 16 inches @ 100 meters then that is a ww2 weapon. All my rifles are shooters. God Bless America

Here's a couple of targets that give you a good idea of accuracy and it depends on your skill and the condition of the rifle.
I'm a expert marksman and a firearms instructor so I shoot well. The first target is with a 91/30 the second is with my M39 after she settled back into the stock and adjusted the front sight.

Oh and my rifles shoot about the same with the surplus stuff or 203 grain Wolf hunting ammo. The bottom target was shot with the silvertip surplus ammo which I have found to be pretty consistent for accuracy.

Learn to shoot it as accurately as possible with that particular rifle.

Rongo has a '42 Ishevsk 91/30 that has a terrible trigger, even as Mosins go, and both of us can shoot that rifle very well. (better than some of our friend using their RemChester 70/0's.) If you take the time to learn to shoot a bad trigger well, you'll still get good accuracy from that gun, and even better accuracy from every other gun you shoot.
Shooting a few hundred rounds out of that old 91/30 with it's horrible trigger made me a much better shooter.

People seam to forget that they are a battle rifle. We think of moa's as the guide with a battle rife you have a good 8 inch from center mass to put down a person. This rifle wasn't put into play to target practice with it was a tool to use to kill a human. It done its job very well. Now we have change the use of it for target practice. If you want moa get a good hunting rifle, bed the stock and put a good piece of glass on it. Then you will be able to stack your rounds at 100yds.

Oh yea, 18 year old kid two months off the farm, now bullets are cracking past his head for the first time, his buddy just took one to the gut, arty is raining down shit all around him, heart rate just under heart attack levels, adrenaline pumping, 50 MOA maybe, don't matter if he has the finest sniper rig in the world. The Russian's understood this and made the rifles good enough in case that kid got born again hard and survived to be a seasoned soldier who they knew would manage 4-6 MOA on a good day. The tight cluster shooting rifle were reserved for the cold steely eyed motherfuckers in the sniper squads who had proved they had the skills to make use of the resources. They didn't have the manufacturing capability's of a first world economy like we had in the west, were manufacturing tolerances were kept tight enough that any rifle off the line would likely be a 1-2 MOA shooter no matter if it needed to be or not. They also didn't have an army of Finnish riflemen born to hunting and enjoying target shooting competitions the way Americans enjoy an afternoon of golf. Such soldiers needed and for the most part received weapons built with a bit more care and attention to detail. That would be one reason how a few hundred thousand or less Finn's held out against a million Soviets for three months one week and five days during the Winter War. The Soviets had numbers on their side, go ahead and kill five million of our troops, we will toss another five million at you , and then another five million after that. No need for accuracy, just run them over.

Make sure the action bolts are tight.

If you have 20/20  thats great. I wish I still did......Older men used to be wary of me at Turkey Shoots. It's tough looking thru Glasses. I can see sights w/out glasses. With glasses, My sights are fuzzy. Without them a target is a fuzzy ball @ 90 M.
1. Get the Post centered every time in your rear sight.
2. The post is the width of a 9" target edge to edge @ 90 M
3. Aim same exact pinpoint spot on target every shot.
These things help me and are basic shooting method, You will be suprised of Mosin accuracy after you do enough cussin' at the range and figure things out.......It's old technology. Your sights may need adjustment.

Eyesight goes to shit as you get older, memory also so not only can't you see were you are aiming you can't remember were to aim either. Just use The Force, I saw it done in a movie once so it must work.
