Winchester makes (or boxes) brass case ammo but it's over a buck a pop! I'll gladly shoot commie crap as long as I must, but I do enjoy making my own.

Molots may come back. this could affect price. If Korean Garands show up who knows what will happen? God Bless America.

If the Garands show up they will be snapped up as quick as last time so don't hesitate to grab one .

If the original Molots show up, they will be as expensive as any other. At least the carbines and I suspect the 91/30's as well. This is what I have seen on the auction sites. The most current Tulsk'i may be less expensive but the billboarding is over the top. My thoughts are that if these do show up, the retailers will keep the price high though. There are some deals out there now for war years 91/30's if you look. I'm hoping for the M1's and the 1911's to be approved. Even under Obama, for some reason, the 1911 release is eminent through CMP. Just have to see if Trump does anything with the Korean M1's. Keep your eyes open.

How would the Korean M1s be sold to the public?

The Koreans will sell them to any US importer , not just the CMP, if the new administration allows them in there will be no restrictions on some company like Century buying a chunk. It could end up like 1990 all over again. Remember they will likely be rough, many the last time were.

You can bet that the importers will do what they can to keep the prices up. They'll also boost the values of the previous Korean imports by having obnoxious import marks compared to earlier examples.

Nobody remembers "BLUE SKY"? This was the huge import mark applied with a ten pound hammer to the barrel of many Garands and carbines back then. It ruined a lot of barrels with that one. later they learned to stamp them lighter but still kept the huge size. I did pick up a couple of Garands on the cheap due to that marking being on them. Word got around about the problems, the owners of these two wanted shut of them and thought they had a sucker. I saw right off that the marking was the later light struck one, neither owner had even fired these rifles before determining they were junk. They both shoot acceptably, I still own both plus another I picked up later. Other import marks were smaller and less obtrusive.

You can't blame Obama for this one. Hillary pushed it when she was SoS.

Obama, Billary Clinton, Bush I, Bush II they are all one in the same and all are to blame at some point for reduction of available Milsurps.

91/30 refurbs are generally available at gun shows in NE Ohio with accessories for $249. I have my fill of 91/30 refurbs so I haven't paid much attention to them. The Chinese T53 with the bayonet lug ground off being sold as a Chinese M38 for $350 was interesting though! :facepalm2:

The M91/30 refurb market has not been consistent or rational since the embargo was imposed two years ago. The FMV seems to be in the $200-$250 range for round receiver rifles, and $250-$300 for ex-Dragoons/hex receivers. I agree that this is a function of supply and demand (of course). However, the ordinary rules of economics have been ignored by more than one seller with respect to these rifles.

Even if the embargo is lifted, and assuming that imports resume (I recall threads speculating that the well had pretty much run dry even pre-embargo), I agree with others that prices will not come down because they are at a level that many sellers now demand.

Specifically, the pricing of these particular milsurps strikes me as irrational, because even in the face of the fact that so many are still available, many sellers refuse to lower their prices. One seller on GB constantly lists 20 or more ex-Dragoons which he describes as "rare," despite the fact that his own listings refute that contention. He lists the same rifles over and over. That might incline a rational person to realize he is not moving inventory and to lower prices, but no. He keeps them at $350-$550. And once you are north of $350, you are looking at rifles other than M91/30 refurbs. For $350, you may pick up a Finn capture, which is an M91/30 with greater value as an artifact.

There are still refurb bargains to be had, but I see no likelihood that the prices for M91/30 refurbs will ever return to a uniform level below $200.

Interestingly enough was in a shop the other day. Went back because they had 3 1895 Nagant revolvers priced around $150 each. I noticed them the week before, but was on a different mission that day. I went back thinking I'd buy all 3 pistols and they were gone. I won't make that mistake again. I asked the guy if he had any nagants left and he assumed I was talking about the rifles. He said mosins sell off the shelf usually as fast as he has them to people my age (late 20s). In the past I had worried my generation wouldn't collect this stuff and my collection would loose value as I age. Instead it seems some the new ww1 and ww2 based video games help fuel the urge as well as movies. Agreed with all the posts the bubble may burst a little, but it's unlikely to ever significantly come down. Even with all the mosins made just look at mill surps in general...we'll hit a point where there are no surplus rifles left to be sold to the public because they are all select fire or auto.

No, unless there was a sudden glut of rifles.

I have been buying and trading guns for over 30 years and can say without equivocation that once the source dries up, they become scarce and prices shoot up to at least double. I would suggest that the price of a nice M39 will go up to around $600.00 within the next year or so.

It seems funny that it took some people a long time to see how good Moisons-Nagants were. I think sometimes we equate inexpensive with not being well made, which is not true with Moison-Nagants. They are very sturdy and accurate shooters. Ammo was and still is reasonable. I love them.

Check out the CMP and see how the sales of M1 Garands are. They are drying up there as well. I picked up a nice M1D at Camp Perry this summer while driving through Ohio. It was fun to go there and pick one out. Now she wears all of the cheek pad, scope mount, scope and flash hider she once had on her. I paid $930.00 for her and I'm sure she would go for double that.

Military guns are excellent investments, fun to shoot and shooting them won't affect there value unless they are UBER collectable, never shot weapons.

dolk wrote:There isn't a single person in these forums that knows what is going to happen. Not one. It's not possible to know because that are way too many variables that effect the prices.
^ This is the correct answer.

Personally, however, I do not believe prices can get much higher in the short-term for a variety of reasons, including the fact that several of the most desirable reasons for getting a Mosin-Nagant rifle in the first place have been kneecapped lately (cheap ammo, cheap rifle). Also, when you're starting to bump up against the lower-end new rifle prices, that's a problem for the portion of the market that's not in it for historical reasons.

The Mosin 91/30 refurb was cheap initially ($60-$100) for this reason: Few people knew what it was. It was a less attractive, obscure rifle, that fired a cartridge no one had a bunch of. Now people recognize it as a decent battle rifle, and many collectors have bought thousands of rounds of ammo for themselves.
Having said that, I don't think it can go up much. It just can't compete with a $350 RC k98. I also think it can't go down much. A dollar is a dollar, and dollars just aren't worth what they were when the Mosin were $60. Inflation has hit very hard in the last 5 years or so. My :2cents: ( which is now worth one cent. Lol)

The CMP does not buy rifles from anyone so they will not end up with the Korean rifles if/when they show up. The CMP gets returned military aid rifles that were given/loaned to foreign militaries.
