I am loading come cast bullets for the Mosin. I was trying to find an OAL for the cartridge but I can't find one. Ok I can find them but they won't chamber. I decided to keep shortening the OAL until the round will chamber. This seems to be about .050 shorter than the OALs I can find for the same weight cast bullet. I am guessing this is ok just keep shorting the cartridge until it chambers then take off just a touch more. I know this is how a chamber length gauge works but it seem pretty far from what the closes numbers I can fine. The factory ammo, which is much longer and a jsp, chambers fine. Am I ok here?
thanks
OAL Question
Re: OAL Question
The ogive (radius of the side of the bullet) is much longer on cast bullets (usually) so it stands to reason that your cast loads would need to be seated shorter.

Re: OAL Question
It sounds like you are on the right track thumbs.
