Strippers and M1A's

Post by steelbuttplate »

IS it normal for M1A's to be tough to use strippers on when new? I'm having a time, with 3 different mags, stopping halfway, bullets popping out, turning sideways. I've got them all packed full of bullets now hoping to loosen 'em up a little :furious: anybody else? SBP w/new Springfield

USGI magazines and clips? USGI parts kit used on the rifle when it was built?

You just have to wear them in, steel clips with that new Parkerizing, they never seem to work smooth at first, not a good thing when you figure they were only made to be used once.

Two of my favorite subjects........oh, you meant stripper clips. OK, still two of my favorite subjects!

5 or ten round? If my experiences with SKS/AK stripper clips are any indication, useing them a few times makes them easier to load with. You can just load and unload your mags until they work easier...that's with I did with the SKS.

The nc stripper clips can be helped by dragging a piece of brass thru them several times to smooth out the finish..I use the ten rounders with my speed loader made by the same company, two slaps and a mag is full...

I got some old British clips from the 90's that work well and top off a 20 round mag fairly quick.

I've now left mag's loaded 18 months, tried running brass thru the 10 rounders 20-25 times on each one, lightly oiled, still having the same trouble on the NC stars. No problem w/ 5 rounders stamped SEY, but the 10's hang after 3-4 rounds, some bullet tips seem to be touching the magazine front making a round sit squab-knobly and stopping the rest. Are all the 10's slightly curved?, the british ones too? These same 10's work like magic on my Enfield L1A2 12 round. :vconfused:

I just watched a video on U tube making a 10 round stripper aid that helps this problem. It is a long U shaped rod easy to make, you put over your rounds and it keeps them from going sideways..........gonna try it. :bonk:
