Will the price of MN's go back down
What is the availability of MN's overseas for importing into the US. Wondering if the price will start going back down now that we have a pro gun president for the next 4 years. Would love to pick up some more if it goes down to $100 per gun like the good old days.
Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
The importers, even if they have access to Russian guns, will never release them fast enough to drop the prices you are looking for. I hope to hell that our newly elected president will not make nice with the Russians to the detriment of our NATO allies. Those old Ruskies are looking back to the glory days of the USSR and dreaming about lost empire, and it wouldn't take much to convince Putin to intimidate Western Europe to take us back to the 50s..

I doubt it. Prices once up, stay up. They may drop a couple buck, but that's about it. They may "stabilize" now that the elections are over, but we will have to wait and see.
I feel sorry for you young guys. Gone are the days of the $40 to $100 Mosins. Even the $100 to $150 Mosins.

The prices of all millsurps are through the roof! I can't imagine any of them are going to depreciate at this point. A deal can still be had here or there, but on the whole.
Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
I disagree. Mosin prices have already come down. I was just discussing this with a dealer a couple days ago. I think $150 will be the new norm sooner than $250 will be.
K98k prices are way down. Up to 40% off their highs. Granted they were over $2k and now just over $1k.
Enfields have been depressed for some time now.

I think that even if they flooded back in here again the 91/30's would stay above 200.00. Classic Arms is stocked to the hilt on 7.62x25 surplus Tokarev ammo ammo and they aren't even trying to sell it at a good price.

Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
Sky high sounds great to me, I have a shit ton of them and I am getting older. One day I will want to sell some off and when that day comes I want to maximize profits. I have been in this game a long time and prices go up and drop back a bit then go up even higher. The only thing that seems to drop prices is a sudden new influx of product, and once that influx peters out the prices rise again. That's because the factory's are long cold, what's left is limited in number and will only last until the remaining supply is exhausted, then there is no more and you have to deal with the consumer not the retailer if you want one . The Consumer is not always inclined to make a deal, or sell cheap.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
I don't see the prices going down at all unless demand begins to diminish. Not sure where the thought that their sold prices are going down is coming from. I've seen a distinct lack of decent Mosins on the auction blocks lately other than some over priced war years examples. Even the Mausers are not showing up in the numbers they used to. The nicer stuff is really starting to appreciate. I saw an interesting Turk the other day with a $750 reserve
Of course, it will sit until the seller regains his senses... One disturbing thing I have seen is a whole bunch of "newbies" on the auction sites that are paying and bidding rifles up to the stratosphere... This is a bubble IMHO that will pop soon enough. But, overall, the prices are going up and will not come down until such time as demand curtails or, in the unlikely event that supply significantly increases. But even then, the retail sellers are not simply going to reduce prices.

Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
I agree with the bubble analogy. I believe the prices are inflated due to the perceived notion that Mosins are in short supply. Just look on gunbroker, there are a bunch of them. I could be wrong but I believe in a year or so prices will drop due to new imports coming in. There is money to be made and once the panic buying stops, prices will go down.
Re: RE: Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
Check out K98kforum for current state of real German Mauser prices. Yes RC Mausers had a temporary price jump, but any priced over $450 have been sitting unsold. Most are selling around $300.qz2026 wrote:I don't see the prices going down at all unless demand begins to diminish. Not sure where the thought that their sold prices are going down is coming from. Of course demand matters. It seems to me there is a drop in demand is my point.qz2026 wrote:Like I said... demandcapt14k wrote:Check out K98kforum for current state of real German Mauser prices. Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
There isn't a single person in these forums that knows what is going to happen. Not one. It's not possible to know because that are way too many variables that effect the prices.
For instance, "IF" Trump decided to take away all firearms tomorrow, prices of firearms and ammo would sore. (He's probably not going to do that, but who knows)....But no one knows that!
If he decided to open up those restrictions on Russian imports from some of those armories, and they find 10 million more Mosins in storage, that could change things......But no one knows that!
Maybe he decided to continue the ban and use that down the line as a "chip" if he negotiates with Russia.......But no one knows that!
There are dozens of things that can effect the prices of firearms..........And no one knows what will go down. NO ONE. Right now everyone is sitting back and trying to figure out what is happening after this election. That has "calmed down" the market for now.
But I'd bet on what Zeebill had to say.

US company's can't afford to make it as cheaply as the ex commies can. The ex commie stuff is not nearly as cheap as it used to be for the surplus or the new made crap. You want a good price on ammo then make it yourself. All the tools and components are available to reload for the Mosin. A dizzying array of presses for all experience levels, mullet molds, factory new bullets, factory new cases, wide selection of primers and powders. Endless company videos showing you how to use their products, books, load charts from all the powder company's. There are load tools for the guy with an entire house to devote to reloading, and the guy who has to keep everything in one shoe box under the bed, no excuses.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
I hate to say it but these are the good old days. Prices are never going to go back down. The importers will just keep inventory and sell off their stock slowly to keep the prices where they want them to be.
Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
No one can predict any commodity market with 100% accuracy. It is all speculation. The golden age of Milsurps is over but I predict a silver age. However I buy Milsurps to collect not to invest.
When people talk about prices from years ago rarely is inflation factored in. Some Milsurps are cheaper today when factoring in for inflation.
From an investment perspective all commodity prices drop. Nothing travels a straight upward line. Every bubble bursts. When investing the trick is to time the valley and peak. However the average investor who tries to buy at the absolute bottom or sell at the absolute top usually gets burned. A small profit is a good profit.

Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
If the Russian import ban is lifted then it will be a good thing but i think the prices will stay about the same. The Russians know what the Mosins are selling for in each country and the importer knows what their profit margins need to be. Supply and demand affects everyone involved.
I doubt there will be sub $200 Mosins, at $200, it's still good value for an average refurb for a person who doesn't own one.

Re: Will the price of MN's go back down
It's all a matter of supply and demand. Guns chambered for a commonly available cartridge will inevitably be in greater demand than those chambered for an obsolete cartridge. That's one factor and there are plenty of others. I believe that is one reason that the price of most Lee Enfield rifles is stabilizing and in some cases, decreasing. .303 British isn't as common as it once was. 8mm Lebel was never common here, so that reduces demand. There are too many factors for any one person to make a broad prediction about military surplus prices. Supply chain disruptions are another possible factor.
