Finally got my AK!

Post by websterz »

My buddy recently found himself in possession of two Century C39 rifles. He had purchased one when they first came out and were in high demand. The only one he could find, anywhere, had pink furniture. Having more money than patience he bought it and we painted the furniture black. When they later came out with the gray laminated wood he sold the first rifle to a friend of his and bought a new one. Well, that friend is getting married and moving to Iowa, and he sold the rifle back to him. I got a call the next day asking if I had a spare recoil spring, and after five minutes of talking I owned an American made, milled receiver AK variant and my buddy owned a CZ-82. I replaced the recoil spring and soft cast metal bolt carrier with parts from a 1960 Polish rifle, retained the original factory bolt to maintain headspace, and added a field expedient two-point sling.

We hit the range today, and after a couple of test shots I settled in behind the rifle and was consistently ringing an eight inch gong at 100 yards with iron sights. I think she's a keeper!

I plan on replacing the plastic furniture with some nice Bulgarian laminated stuff that has been sitting around the shop for a couple of years.

Congratulations on the new rifle, looks good in the photo! Now you need to start looking for a 5.45x39 Ak-74 style one too :D

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
