An unknown mark on one of my Mosins.

Post by mrmark99 »

What is the "X" or "+" mean? It is on a M91 made in 1911that is also Finn Marked, also with a circle "B".
I can not seem to find any reference for it.

I don't recall seeing that mark. I will await the answer with you, assuming it isn't another unknown mark.

Like a treasure map mark. Don't think I have ever seen a 1911 Mosin. Very cool.

I would have guessed it was a way to "scrub" the Tsarist markings, but it's above the marking on this rifle. I've seen lots of strange overstamps on those eagles, but in this case I'd have to say it's just an unknown mark.

I was told it could be a Summa Winter Cross stamp, but doubtful. Or more likely a mark for the Finnish Imperial Guard prior to 1911.

That's a Russian capture marking? Oh I forgot that's a Russian rifle. I would say that is a special mark that makes people tell strange and interesting stories about, along with many other unknown markings. 1911 is also one year I have none of too. I have seen them but didn't want to pay a ridiculous price for it though. I walk very often as I get older I find and you know what? It bothers me less and less so I would say old age has its advantages! Bill

It would be interesting to see the rest of this rifle.
