Mom and Dad got me an early Christmas gift. 1972 Yugo SKS 59/66A1 with phosphor sights and grenade launcher. Looking like a pretty lady still in her cosmoline. I'm looking forward to getting he cleaned up and out to the range. What is the best cosmoline remover? Mineral Spirits? Sorry, pics are too big. Here are the links

Re: New to me SKS
Congrats, these are nice carbines.
First thing is to get it off your Mom's stove, or your gonna be in deep kimchi
Break it down clean all the metal with your favorite solvent. Now for the stock you can wipe it with mineral spirits, but the grease is still gonna leach out over time. Wrap stock in paper towels put in black plastic bag and place in sun/hot car dash etc. I picked up a couple of these a few years ago and they are fun shooters.

Those are some nice rifles!
Mineral spirits and a pile of paper towels has always done the trick for me.

WD-40 also thins the gunk into an oil that you can wipe off

Very nice, congrats! I've got two Yugo's & they're my favorite flavor of SKS, you will enjoy it.
