I thought the "Mattel" M16 was proven to be an "Urban Legend", honestly don't remember where I read that at, but I seem to recall that it was total BS! Somebody correct me if I am wrong and show me proof!

I assume OP is talking about the Mattel M16 Marauder? A toy replica of the M16 complete with sound effects? For I am sure everyone knows that Mattel never made an M16 or any parts for the M16 including the Pistol Grip. At least I certainly hope everyone knows that.

Either that or OP was just making a joke? If so topic should probably be moved to the Just for Laughs Section?

My study of the black rifle encompassed 15 minutes, I have made cracks for decades about the "Mattel special" , but I never stopped to wonder if Mattel ever actually made the real rifle. You never know these days, company's diversify to survive, during WW2 the Underwood typewriter company made M1 carbines, Chrysler made tanks. The list of company's that previously made innocuous civilian products that suddenly found themselves making weapons of death is a long one. A.C. Gilbert company was once one of the largest toy makers in the world, during WW2 they made parts for various military aircraft among other things that brought death rather than joy. I don't know anything about the Mattel company's past, but some part of it could be a government contractor of some sort.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

My issue H&R M16A1 started life as an M16 in 1964 or 5,and was originally sent to the Air Force. It was actually General Dynamics that made the GM ones. I had several of them in my Arms room.

I call BS on that. the handguards, pistol grip and buttstock were all made of phenolic, a type of plastic Mattel did not use in production. The only M16's that had "Mattel" logos on them were the Marauder toy guns, like the one John Wayne smashes against a tree in The Green Berets after they find Kowalski dead.

No you saw a Photoshopped picture, someone stamped it themselves, or you were looking at a toy. Mattel never made any parts for M16.

I have no doubt that there is a M16 out there with Matell handgrips. Just like this Dewalt M16 nail gun. Don't make it "made by Matell or Dewalt". Just funny.

Do you realize you are telling the owner of the forum what to do on his own forum?
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
