Non refurb 1958 Tula letter gun
Non refurb 1958 Tula letter gun
Found this one over the winter at a large gun shop in Maine. This represents the last Russian produced SKS rifles and they were made at Tula from 1956 to 1958. Unlike earlier guns they lacked a date on the top cover and were simply marked on the left side with the Tula star and a letter prefix in front of the serial number. Most laminated stocks on Russian SKS rifles are replacements but some of the late letter guns such as this one had factory laminated stocks making them a rare find.

It's a beauty!

Nice! I got one of those (solid stock) from Classic back a few years ago when I ordered a "Chinese SKS", apparently there were a few Russians mixed in with that batch. I ordered a second one from them (because I really wanted a factory 26 gun for my collection) and got a Sino-Soviet ghost instead (damn the luck.....). I still don't have a factory 26 specimen though.

I saw a 54 Izhevsk albeit in kinda rough shape mixed in with that Chinese lot at a local shop for $400. Kinda wish I had bought it in retrospect.
