Just another Evil Black rifle build

Post by mogunner »

I'm not really sure what I have in this one as far as $$$ as a lot of parts were pulled off other projects for one reason or another. Sometimes I'll get a great deal on a stock that comes with a buffer tube and spring and buffer, so the one that I bought earlier intending on using on that build will get tossed into the spare parts box.

It started on a Bushmaster stripped lower receiver, only reason I went with that is when I met up with my guy that I usually get the Anderson's from, the only ones he had were closed trigger guard which I don't use as I like to install the larger winter ones.

I used a Center Mass Tactical lower parts kit, which I don't recommend as their hammer was oversized on one spring lug and I had to wage an email battle with them to get a good one. They did however make amends by including a JP "Enhance reliability" spring set with the replacement hammer that dramatically lowered the trigger pull.

Milspec buffer tube and accompanying parts, not sure who made the stock as it came out of the spare box.

Same with the pistol grip but if I recall correctly it was a $10 ebay one.

Upper started with a Keyhole forge stripped receiver. Small parts came from Outdoor Sports USA, they have fantastic prices on the little stuff that always runs into big $$$ when added up. I paid $30 for a sale package that had the charging handle, dust cover and forward assist assembly. These usually run about $45 and up elsewhere, and they have free shipping on everything.

Barrel is an another Anderson 1:8 twist, 16" carbine gas system. I actually got a better price buying it from Brownells with my discount for having an 03FFL than I could buy it straight from Anderson.

Low profile steel gas block, stainless gas tube. Eagle Lite 15" free float quadrail, another purchase from Outdoor Sports, $35, free shipping and came with the plate for the front end as well which usually runs another $7-$10.

AIM surplus BCG, I actually used the BCG out of my favorite shooter and bought a NiB one from AIM for that one when they had them on sale for $100 shipped. Since this one will hopefully get sold, I put the shiny new BCG in the one I'm keeping, lol.

Aukmont 45 degree offset sights, a fishbone muzzle brake out of the parts box and threw on the Barska 1x30 IR red dot that came on my WASR and all done.

Ran 120 rounds through it on Sunday, it's as accurate as any that I've shot with a red dot on it. I prefer a scope, but for a close in rapid target acquisition this setup would work fine.

Nice looking black rifle! I finished a couple of builds during the fourth of July sales myself.

Packing up and leaving that state way back in the mid 90's was the smartest thing I ever did, I swear. :soapbox:
