Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hi all. New to this forum and new to the ownership of a M91/30 Mosin. Came here to gather and share knowledge about this fine rifle. After I properly break it down and de-cosmo it, I'll post a few pics.
Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
I think I will go with the 180 gr ammo
Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
I have one Mosin Nagent, a Remington 1917 that I inherited from my dad. It’s a rifle he brought back from Japan in 1946. All I really know about it was they were allowed to pick several rifles from a bunch that they could bring back to the states. He picked up two Arisaka rifles, a 38 carbine and a 99, and the Mosin. It sat in a homemade gun cabinet in the garage for 60 years occasionally being looked at but during that time none of us knew what it was, what caliber it was or anything about it. I took it home when he passed and only in the last couple of years have started researching the rifle. Thought this forum would be a great place to get more information. The rifle is in good shape only missing a front sight.

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
You have definitely come to the right place to learn about the Mosin, and other rifles for that matter. Congratulations on your father passing down to you a very nice Mosin. I have yet to even see a Remington Mosin in hand. I think the icing on the cake is it being an heirloom!LAR135-NE wrote:I have one Mosin Nagent, a Remington 1917 that I inherited from my dad. Howdy, from Arizona. I own several Mosin's. The oldest is a 91/30 dated 1932. The newest in a Chinese Type 53 dated 1955. As I get the time I will post photos.
I am here to learn and gather information. Any insights and help will be greatly appreciated.

There are plenty knowledgeable and helpful people on this forum, unlike some other forums where there are plenty of know it alls who in reality know very little. I've been here for a couple years, but I am just a novice compared to many of the guys here.Drill Sergeant wrote:Howdy, from Arizona. I own several Mosin's. The oldest is a 91/30 dated 1932. Welcome to the forum. Looks like you inherited a fine rifle. Remington's are a fine Mosin to have and usuallyLAR135-NE wrote:I have one Mosin Nagent, a Remington 1917 that I inherited from my dad. command a premium. Cherish this rifle and your Dads service for this country. My Dad and three of his brothers
one which gave his life over Germany in a B17 were WW2 vets. Everybody here would like to see more pics, it
appears to be a fine example.
loose bolt
first let me say the board looks good and from what i have seen it has a lot of good info. i have never been on any forums or message boards before so if i mess up something please don't hesitate to let me know. now the meat of the matter. a couple of weeks ago i acquired a mosin nagant russian 1891/59. it is in really good shape except it was not properly/thoroughly cleaned of its cosmolene. i spent about a week soaking and cleaning and got it removed. cleaned, oiled, and reassembled the rifle and all seems well, however one issue. the bolt is nicely tight and operates as it should as long as it is dry fired. if you cock the bolt and close it as with a round in it the bolt is loose and a little vibration will cause the bolt to rotate up almost to the point where the bolt will pop open. i watched junk yard dogs video and made sure it is assembled correctly and it still does it. i could probably correct this issue but i would rather do it correctly. if anyone has any experience with this or knows of a solution i would certainly appreciate the help. tnx GIMP

New member here, but not so much to milsurps.
At one time, several years back, I had three 91/30's and one 91/59, and on m44. All I have now is one 91/30 which is a 1931 ex-dragoon Izhevsk barrel built on a 1919 Tula hex receiver. Prewar stock and all matching numbers, no force matching. I remember getting this about 5 years ago. One of those 79.00 Big 5 specials. I don't recall ever shooting it though.
Look forward to seeing more here.

Hello, I am a new member and first time Mosin Nagant owner. I purchased
a 1926 Izhevsk model with matching serial numbers. What I am trying to
find out is what sling and ammo pouch would have been issued at the
time this weapon was manufactured. The weapon came with a cotton od
colored sling and the very common ammo pouches that can be found
on eBay. Pictures of the period appear to show an all leather sling and a
leather single ammo pouch (size looks as large as the 2 pouches
combined that I was given with the rifle.) I want to outfit it to be
historically accurate, if possible.

Welcome all new members. Any questions you may have should be asked in the Mosin Nagant section, you will reach more members. csm134fa, what you have, both the sling and pouches, are correct for the refurbished 91/30 you have.

Hey all, Ryan here. Just bought my first mosin ('43 91/30 Izhevsk) about a year ago but I've been obsessed with them since about 2004. For anybody who likes Metal Gear, an elite sniper in MGS3, "The End" used a PU Mosin against snake in the game... then I saw enemy at the gates.... BAM, I was hooked. I'm an ex Army Forward Observer/Infantryman. I have all the original parts to my mosin but have done some reversible mods to it since I've bought it (aftermarket stock, 10 round mag, scout scope, have a texas precision break on the way) Anyway, I know this is mainly a preservation site, and I have every intention of doing just that with my future mosins. nice to be part of the group!

Greetings, comrades. Been looking around & I'm glad I found this board. Figured it was probably the one board where a username with the word 'spam' in it would just get a grin instead of getting me booted. Me and Boris (my '34 Izhevsk) are glad to be here & I'm looking forward to chewing the fat.

Many members here regularly slice, dice, fry and then consume Spam , They see your username and start salivating, then go have some Spam necessitating a resupply mission to the Spam store thereby stimulating the economy. Welcome to the board
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Just dang glad to be here! New member, long time shooter, collector, and firearms competitor. I have only one Mosin, but several other military rifles and handguns. I found this forum looking for a grip screw for an IJ70 Makarov. I'm located on the high (and currently very dry) plains of SE Wyoming.

Hey Everybody!
Happy to be aboard here. I have learned a lot from you all in the past and finally decided to join. I have only been collecting for about 2 years or so but I am hooked! I look forward to learning more, and hopefully paying it forward at some point. It is hard to say what my favorite is, but my first Mosin Nagant was a 1943 refurb matched M44. What a BLAST to shoot!

Big fan of the stuff myself. Friend of mine who was stationed in Hawaii says the local economy over there would probably collapse without it. Mostly I picked the name out of nostalgia for the not-so-long-ago days when you could still find the nice big dark green ones covered in Cyrillic stencils & containing something even more enjoyable than chopped, cooked & pressed flesh of the swine. Alas, the times they are a-changin'. Got a couple of those in a similarly-stencilled wooden crate stashed away in a nice dry closet against contingencies. Nice to be here.Junk Yard Dog wrote:Many members here regularly slice, dice, fry and then consume Spam , They see your username and start salivating, then go have some Spam necessitating a resupply mission to the Spam store thereby stimulating the economy.
