Stumbled across this in my search for a repro. Any thoughts? Has anybody here tried this? Doesn't look like it would hurt the rifle in any way.

My sentiments exactly. I think we could if we cut off the bayonet lug, but I'd rather cut off one of my toes than deface a rifle like that.
Nailed it. I couldn't stand the thought of defacing a historical firearm either, just to get it into this state legally.

Not trying to derail this thread, but what I did instead was order a different "illegal" rifle that is semi-auto, has detachable mags, and shoots 54r.

Namely, a VEPR. The only thing that makes it illegal is the thumbhole stock. Fill in the thumbhole, and it is now no longer illegal.

[quote="Chiroptile"]Thank you! I don't intend on shooting it until I can turn the gas setting down from 1.7.. /quote]

So just take off the top cover and loosen the Gas Cylinder . you will be able to adjust the settings with your fingers. Of course don't leave it that way.

Never been fortunate enough to handle one. It doesn't seem like the case here but it would be cool if it was like the barrel band on the m1 carbine. I remember thinking I'll sell it out of state before I'd cut the lug off.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless of course one fell in my lap... Just not actively pursuing one & there's too many other gotta haves on my list.

Hey, guys.. A little update. I've been able to take it out to the range a couple of times now. Probably have about a hundred rounds through it, non-corrosive. Gas setting down on 1.3.. Decided not to bother with the gas tool.. I have not had one single failure to cycle or lock back, it cycles flawlessly. I did notice that sometimes it will fling a case 10 feet forward and to the right, and then drop the next one a couple of feet away from me on the bench. The threaded gas piston loosens a bit when shooting, so I bet that plays into the variable ejection distance. I was thinking of getting the stainless piston/cup set. Any thoughts on that? Is that a Bubba move?

The sights on it were jacked up, kept shooting low and to the right.. To the point where at 50 yards it was about a foot off of point of aim. Sight tool fixed that problem, and it groups pretty well. I am sure most of you could group it way better than I can.

One thing I found out today is that my magazine holds 11 rounds. Again, never had one hiccup with feeds or the bolt locking back, so the springs must be nice and healthy. I tried to do some research into this, but can't seem to find anything. Have any of you guys ever heard of this 10+1 thing?

(In unrelated news, I got my pilot license yesterday! Any aviators here on the boards?)

Congrats on your pilot's license. Don't you wish you had the Spitfire by your name?

I bought the stainless steel sets and use them for shooting, but I shoot corrosive. The issue piston/cup sets were very corroded, and I switch them when I shot for better performance in cycling. I don't see it as bubba.

Who has these stainless kits? My originals are still very good but if I can preserve them it would be better.

SA1911, would love the spitfire, but I would gladly settle for a Piper Cherokee!

Longcolt.. This is the site http://www.ppsh41.com/svtitems.html

Any thoughts on the 11 round mag capacity? Is this all SVT mags?

Dang that's brutal and no I won't tell you what I paid for mine.. :D
Good for you Sonny! It is not anybody's business and in my opinion very disrespectful to ask!!!!!!!!

That being said one of my SVT's which is a Mixmaster and although not marked more than likely a Finn owned one was $245 and I bought it at the range after shooting it. I feel for you folks starting out today and facing these daunting prices. Yeah and I feel it ain't fair too but it is what it is I am afraid and not likely to change. Bill

My 1942 Tula SVT-40 will only hold 10 rounds. Saying that makes me wonder if it will hold 11, I never tried to put 11 in it. Thanks for the link.

For a Finn Captured $1,200, typical Russian Refurb $900, add $200-500 for Podolsk to those numbers. Matching Russian Original $2,000+. Matching Podolsk Original $6,000. Matching Finn not sure. I have Finn Captured SVT-40s 1941 Podolsk not matching and 1941 Izhevsk partially matching. Both cost the same amount bought in the same week.

I wish I had picked one up a long time ago when they were available for a reasonable price.

Thanks so much. Looking at hitting a show or two later this year and it's always better to have a realistic idea.
