Finnish M28 & M28-30 for Sale Question About Finish
Finnish M28 & M28-30 for Sale Question About Finish
Tapatalk keeps sending me updates from the other forum and got one today from a post from Alan's Armory about Finnish Rifles that came in. The M/28-30 certainly seems to be priced right the M/28 however is the same price which seems a little high. My question is does the finish look right? Maybe it is poor lighting, but they look like Russian Red Shallac instead of any Finn Finish I have seen. Am I off base on this one? If posts like this are not allowed please delete and let me know. I read no current auctions but nothing about current sales. Which doesn't mean I didn't miss it. If it is not allowed I apologize.

Doesn't look like "Russian shellac" on them, but they sure are "red" (excuse the pun!). Maybe something put on them??
Doesn't matter now, they are all sold out!

M28 & M28/30... Surprisingly two I have yet to add.

Well they sold quick. Surprised the M/28 sold so quickly I have seen better for $50 less sitting around unsold.

Shouldn't be surprised they sold so quick with the prices he listed them at. Allan does this sometimes. I'll guarantee you that if he acquires any more, they will be priced more competitively
I saw the same thing when he listed his first batch of Star Model B's. Those were listed for $275 not long ago and I snatched one up. The next batch he got in were priced about $100 more
Re: Finnish M28 & M28-30 for Sale Question About Finish
The stocks both look to be the correct Finnish red color. I have a number of M28s & M28/30s in my collection with similar color stocks.
The red color can be seen on some of the stocks on the right side in the pictures.

They looked fine to me.
Re: Finnish M28 & M28-30 for Sale Question About Finish
Maybe it is my display or eyes or the close up pic, but the red looks brighter to me. Doesn't matter now because they are sold. $450 for the M/28-30 I probably would have grabbed but I had never seen that bright red before and I was unsure. However the Rifles are not my specialty. Thanks for the info all.

Here are pictures of (3) M28/30s and another M28 with different shades of red. Lighting can really affect the picture taking of rifles.

I think they looked fine. My M28 definitely looks red, but it is also in a SYT marked one piece Russian stock. My 28/30's have a bit of a red tinge to them also.
Re: Finnish M28 & M28-30 for Sale Question About Finish
Yes those last two definitely look red Alskey. Thank you. Now I know for next time. Yes lighting, camera, and display can all make a huge difference in pics. I took pics of one of my SVT-40s yesterday in three different spots and it looks 3 different colors. I have found natural light or a light box with daylight LED bulbs gives the best true representation of color.

Well, I went and looked at my Finn's and damn if some of them are not red. Not many, but a few.
Here is a Finn captured M38. Notice it is red? Now it never went through the Russian refurbishment, so it should be more yellow or brown in color. Only the refurbs are red. So the only people that could have done this is the Finn's sometime after they got it.

But 99% of my fins have a yellowish to brown finish on them. I have to say I was surprised to see a few of them red. I guess I need to pull them out of the safes more often and look at them!!

Dolk that is a very pretty M38. Unusual that it is wearing bent wire sling hangers!

That's the point of the forum to share and learn. Now I know Finn's can be red like Russian Mosins. All mine are Brown or Yellow Brown.

It is ...isn't it? Finn's had wire hangers also. You see them on SCW rifles also and a few others, but they are all a little different.Alsky wrote:Dolk that is a very pretty M38. Unusual that it is wearing bent wire sling hangers!
Here is how I know it is a Finn capture

I saw them listed about 10 minutes after they were posted and I thought then that they might go quickly. 10 minutes later the 28/30 was sold. I checked back about 45 minutes later and the M28 was also sold. The prices must have been fine. If anyone wants something these days it doesn't seem like there is much time to think about it.

Oh hey I meant to say I hope someone here was able to buy them. I would like to see more of both rifles.
Re: Finnish M28 & M28-30 for Sale Question About Finish
They went quick because as per usual from this dealer his prices are very reasonable and he is easy to deal with. The two colors on the 28/30 was what I often find and remember they are often Pomo-lacquer which tends to have a reddish tinge with age. The 28/30 was under priced I think and the M28 was about right and that is why they went so fast.
I often shudder to think about buying on the internet using only pictures and rarely do it. As pointed out above the lighting has a great deal to do with what your seeing and what it may look like in your hands. In my younger collecting days I bought often off the internet but now with prices going sky high and people openly competing to buy over priced pieces I stay away from there when I can. Me and JYD are cheap old buggers and we worked hard for our money and are used to the good old days which just don't exist any more I am afraid. I will pay prices way above what I used to pay at times but only when the piece is in my hands and is inspected and deemed really worth it on todays price market. I don't envy the now starting collectors as the prices they are being forced to pay if they want things are way over what I will pay most times. Add in the stance of many beginning collectors using internet only and it will cost a fortune to have a decent collection these days. I still keep grubbing around and trading and selling to improve what I have but it takes a lot of effort and time.
I only looked at the 28/30 and not the M28 as I have a bunch of them and have sort of started to cull some stuff for trading to get things I need yet to fill holes. Plus having access to Kevin's great collection I have more than enough there to keep me broke and hungry. Who else do you know that would be up trying to get some time on the internet at 72 at 4:30 AM? Gotta be more than a little crazy to do this hobby!!
