Range Trip Today

Post by capt14k »

Was able to sneak off to the Range today. This time u didn't bring any Mosins because I had too many rifles I hadn't fired yet. So I brought along my 1908 Brazilian Mauser, Original Yugo M24, MAS-44, MAS-49/56 and Type 14 Nambu.

The Brazilian I could not get to feed properly so I ran through 20 rounds firing one at a time. I will have to work on that one.
It shot a little high but overall it was good.

The Yugo M24 functioned flawlessly but wasn't exactly a tack driver. The bore looks perfect on it. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't a Finn M/28-30.

The MAS-49/56 functioned flawlessly and was very accurate. This is my second MAS-49/56, and it is just as good as my other one. The MAS-49/56 and the 7.5 French Round should have been the NATO battle rifle. It's built like a tank, reliable like an AK, and pretty dang accurate.

This was my second trip with the MAS-44. The first time I took it to the range it wouldn't feed. I cleaned it better and oiled it and it fired flawlessly today and was very accurate, until it decided to switch to 3 round burst mode. Startled me and the couple other guys there. There was no mistaking it was firing full auto bursts. Luckily it wasn't very busy today and it is a private club. I'm guessing it needs a new firing pin? I have some MAS-44 pins so I will try that first.

The Nambu Type 14 was a mess. The first round fired, the next 4 stove piped, and the last of the six I loaded jammed the whole thing up. With some helping hands I got the round loose and it went in the chamber. I fired the last round and called it a day. Anyone know any Nambu gunsmiths in NJ?

All in all it was a beautiful day and a good day at the range.

I choose this forum because of the MAS Rifles. If there is a better forum to post this in please let me know.

The problem with the MAS 49/56 is it's built like a tank, expensive to produce, time consuming to produce, and heavy for the grunt to hump around like the FN49. THE FN FAL/L1A1 is an excellent weapon, number two on my list after the M1/M14 rifles. A design better suited to mass production, built strong, user friendly design, flawless operation, 7.62x51mm round, some of the many reasons NATO excepting the USA adopted it. France like the USA had a not invented here attitude when it came to firearms design for the military. For them it was good but oddball stuff like the Mas series, for us the M16 type rifles, even the British after century's of home developed weapons embraced the FAL design, slightly modified, but essentially the same rifle.

Worn sear? It's running away on you, something is out of spec in the trigger group.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Good point on the cost and weight. I do really like them though. I will check with Buddy if he has any sears. Thank you.
