Ex Dragoon, so that's what I bought
Was just visiting my friends gunshop a couple weeks ago. When things slowed down he motioned me to the back. He wanted me to see the Mosin he had gotten and thought it funny that his help would not like seeing all the cosmoline that had to be cleaned off. A 91/30, matching with all assesories. I finger wiped the date and saw 1926 Hex Tula. Then asked the price, $270. I told him if he leaves the cosmo. on I'll buy it, and I did. I'm not cleaning this one up, just taped the box shut and will leave it that way. I did tell him that a 91/30 could not be older than 1930 but he did not care as the papers said 91/30. With other projects it was not until today I found the info. to tell me what I thought I had. Before this rifle my oldest Mosin was a 31 laminated Tula, not counting an M39 with a 1897 receiver. As such I had little Dragoon knowledge.

Sorry if I missed it in your opening comments, so is it a Dragoon or a updated Dragoon (91/30), either way pretty good score. Congrats

Is an updated Dragoon the same as an Ex Dragoon. Either way it looks like a 91/30 but for the rear sight base.
Re: Ex Dragoon, so that's what I bought
This is a Dragoon rifle captured by the Finns and put into Finnish service. Note the front "barleycorn" sight and the rear Konovilov sight. A Dragoon refurbished to M91/30 standards has the globe and post front sight and the "straight" rear sight.

As I mentioned, looks like a 91/30.
So what are the thoughts of leaving it packed in cosmoline? Or clean it up?
I have more than enough shooters and see no reason shoot this one just to say I have shot it.

Sounds like a good excuse to take it apart. Cleaning out cosmo is a labor of love anyway.556m16 wrote: Clean it up there might be some active rust under the woodline.
I have seen a lot of damage caused because they were not cleaned after importation
Will have at it.

Clean it, this is not an arsenal new rifle in the original wrap, you will not hurt any value by cleaning it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

May have been captured in winter war or continuation war. Could have been purchased from Hitlerites. What is tang date? Maybe m91 cut down? Did tula make them until 26?

Tang stamp is a number 2 only and an outline of a hammer. Was wearing glasses and used a magnifying glass.
