So I picked these up for 220 dollars for the pair at a crap gunshow here in Michigan. I've no idea the history or even the model designation of these rifles so please fill my head with knowledge!
Been doing some research since I posted this originally. Apparently most people call these the M-55 despite quite a few rifles made in 1954 being seen. From what I gather there are versions with a rail along the barrel almost if for a scope but it's for the rear iron sight that has quite a bit of adjustment. One of the other versions is just a dovetail cut and has a block of steel with a notch cut in it as the rear sight, both sights and barrel cuts don't appear to be limited to one year of production (From what I have been seeing at least). So I scored both which is neat. I guess a lot of these are completely shot out and suffered from large amounts of dry firing which puts a nasty burr on the edge of the chamber and can cause failures to extract. One of mine had that burr but a couple passes with a rat-tail fixed that problem. Another problem was apparently the ammo used suffered squibs once in a while and since the rifles are so quiet and heavy a novice shooter may no notice it and start stacking bullets in the barrel leaving rings and bulges. Now the one with the nice sights has no detectable bulges but it has a couple shallow rings near the throat that don't seem to bother the accuracy of the rifle at all.
The one with the adjustable rear sight prints about a quarter sized group at 65 feet while the plain sighted gun does a bit more than that with El Cheap Golden Bullets.
I decided to move the topic into the right forum.
