Pretty upset with RCBS

Post by Burrhead »

I have of late had issues with my sizing die for the 50 Action Express cartridge I shoot in my Desert Eagle hand gun. The sizer isn't sizing the mouth of the case small enough to hold the 300 grain bullet that I shoot in this weapon. So I contacted RCBS and they said send them the die for evaluation. In the mail it goes and a month later I get it back with 5 sized cases and they say it is "in specification" no action necessary. Two of the cases they sent me had bullets seated in them, they were 450 grain bullets that are way to long for the cartridge so I took these apart and pushed them into two of the others with my fingers needless to say these cases have the issue I was talking about.
So I have contacted them again and they basically gave me the brush off and said it was my problem not theirs. So much for that famous "life time warranty" I was totally ticked off at them so I called rather than e-mailing got the same answer as well as telling me to buy new brass. Hell some of the stuff I am loading is new Starline brass. RCBS didn't seem to care about that either.
Anyway I have ordered a new sizer die from Hornady and I should be back up and running in a few days but I am disappointed in RCBS and their handling of this. The result was I didn't buy their 7X57 die set for my new to me 1908 Brazilian Mauser I got the Hornady dies coming maybe they will stand behind their product warranty.

I don't blame you for being upset. I've picked up some used RCBS dies before partly because I knew if there were any issues I could fall back on the lifetime warranty.

That's one of the reasons I went with a press from Dillon Precision. They are well respected for their customer support and I prefer to support a local business-they make their presses in Scottsdale, Arizona and I am in Tucson. I've been to their in house store and ordered parts from them on occassion. Always got good service.

This is my first real die problem and I have a lot sets with all the rifles and hand guns I have. Most are RCBS but after this issue I am buying Hornady. I have some Lee dies as well for 9mm, 45ACP and 357 Mag. I have never had a Lee problem, when the 7.62X38R dies I bought from Lee arrived the sizer was the wrong one they sent the replacement next day on the Brown Truck.
Anyway I sent RCBS another e-mail and they said well send it back and if it's out of spec we'll replace it. But they have already said it was in spec so they aren't doing a thing so why waste the $$'s shipping it back again. I bought a set of Hornady dies and I have all the brass sized and ready to go. I start loading after I get done here. The Hornady sizer sized the mouth of the case 0.003" smaller and they now hold the bullet properly. So next week end the DE is going to get some range ime.
