i keep the bolt open. first because it saves space. second so air can circulate

one point that was brought up that i did not think about was about the spring tension with the bolt open. the bolts were open while these rifles were in storage in crates for up to 70 years and still stiff. which reminds me of an article i read about leaving spring loaded mags full or empty. i read that it is more the loading and unloading that puts wear and wears out the spring rather than keeping it in tension. that was new to me as well. but AR mags are replacable and mosin parts are finite, so got me thinking again haha

I leave them closed if they fit in the designated space, but if I need room I open them. I don't remove the bolts for storage elsewhere, and still need a bolt for a Remington 341 22 rifle because after my friend lost his bolt he just gave a boltless rifle to me.

in my experience the best thing is to leave all parts together, separating things when it is not needed to, just makes things go missing haha
