Hello everyone,
I am relatively new to Mosin's and the 7.62x54r cartridge. As I have been doing much reading and web surfing/shopping I have seen ammo for sale listed as 7.62x54 without the "r" designation. Are there two variations? If so, do you know which weapons shoot the non "r" variety?
Thanks,
Roger

The technical designation is 7.62X54r, the r stands for rimmed. 7.62X54 is just the short version, no difference.

Thank You Sir!
Re: 7.62x54r and without the "r"
You will also come across 7.62x53 and 7.62x53R in your reading. Once again both the same but it is different than 7.62x54. If you have a M28/30 without D Mark you want 7.62x53. Yes many say you can shoot 7.62x54, but I feel safer shooting 7.62x53, the accuracy is second to none, too bad the cost is so high ($2.50/round).
