The Great Gun Guru Smiled on this unworthy subject...
Re: The Great Gun Guru Smiled on this unworthy subject...
Damn you did a awesome job rescuing the "Old Gals", a lot better than I probably could have done. I was tempted, but didn't know how hard it would be, or how bad the stock would have looked afterwards. Better to leave them to those that have more skills than me. De-Bubba'd and looking proper again.
BTW how did you straighten out the bolt handle for future reference?

Stellar restoration work!
Re: The Great Gun Guru Smiled on this unworthy subject...
Looks great! Holy crap that was fast work.
Re: The Great Gun Guru Smiled on this unworthy subject...
Thanks for all of the nice comments guys. The work was quick because it was easy. The paint came off, lemon oil went on and it was done. The bolt was a mater of vicing it down heating it up cherry red and using a crescent wrench to lever it back to it's original position. I have several other bolts, and bolt bodies, but I wanted to keep the all Remington bolt with the gun.
Mosin-Nagant rifles have been so few and far between in these parts, I had given up looking for them. The shows would have one or two wartime examples at astronomical prices, or a cut-up version or two. I have started seeking out old revolvers. It is funny how it works, just when you least expect something, it will fall in your lap. It is a good lesson to keep going to the lame-ass shows, cause you never know when two old guys will be there with a stack of good stuff. Hell, it won't be long before I am one of those grumpy of farts on the other side of the table...and you guys are gonna like my table.

You is one lucky dude Steve. So the Remington maybe never left the USA ? Very nice

The Remington has Tula butt-pate and Izhevsk mag. plate. Who knows what it's path was. Maybe the barreled receiver and stock were stay homes and someone in the last 100 years swapped parts or maybe it just missed the import marking. Bubba may have built it from spare parts. Your guess is as good as mine. The receiver and barrel are in such pristine condition you can be sure that they never saw combat. What is puzzling is why it would have a bolt assembly that is all Remington, but not matching....steelbuttplate wrote:You is one lucky dude Steve. So the Remington maybe never left the USA ? What can be said that hasn't already been said. That is a spectacular find. I would be making a fool of myself doing a jug, heading out the door, if that had been my deal.

Re: The Great Gun Guru Smiled on this unworthy subject...
Good deal.
Bring the old girls home and feed them! Gotta love the history that comes unspoken with rifles like these two!
GOOD RIDDANCE LGR!! If there isn't a gun range in heaven, then I'm going to hell.

I had a chance to get the pair to the range today. The Remington was fine, it shot minute of man easily, but the new NEW was a tack driver. It was an absolute pleasure to shoot and grouped tight with surplus ammo.
After the shoot, I made a trade, I let go of a M-1895 refurb for a 1926 Colt Army Special in .38 Spl. It is a really tight revolver with the magic Colt touch. I am quite pleased with the swap. My pony stable continues to grow.
(correct grips are in this gun's future)

Steve that was some nice work. I really like the old military 38 revolvers. And they are just plain fun to shoot too.

I am stopping, on the way home from work, to pick up some .38 Spl., to make sure I like it as much as I thought I did yesterday.bunkysdad wrote:Steve that was some nice work. I really like the old military 38 revolvers. And they are just plain fun to shoot too.

Re: The Great Gun Guru Smiled on this unworthy subject...
I loaded up a few boxes of 148 gr wad cutters here awhile back and took my friend to the range to shoot his S&W model 10. He had that for about 20 years and never had shot it. Well those were nice mild loads and shot so nicely.
