Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Nice one. There are a lot of very nice M-48's out there to be had but now getting a little expensive. One thing I have noticed about them is that the wrists are probably the thickest I have ever felt on any of the Mausers. Very cool guns.
Nice rifle. I can't blow the pic up enough on my phone, but it looks like a M48B. If there is a small rib on each side of the trigger guard, it's a stamped piece. I'm assuming the floor plate is stamped. If you remove the magwell/trigger guard you will be able to see better the stamped parts and welds. A M48a would have a machined steel piece, totally smooth and one piece.

Had it completely apart to remove the storage grease, it is a M48A (floor plate is the only stamped piece).
If what you say is true, you have a pretty good piece there. I'veseen very few true M48A examples out there. Even most retail dealers are calling them M48A and they are selling M48B. Just for kicks, who is the importer.?

Upon further review....it appears to be a "B". Thanks to redeuce for making my day.
Don'tworry kid, you have a beautiful M48B. Nothing wrong with that. Thats why I asked who the importer was. It looked so good I thought it might be MAI or MMC!
