AR web site help
I'd like to look a little deeper into maybe buying or building a AR type rifle. What I'm wanting is the full stock M16 look without all the bells and whistles like sliding rear butt stock and the extra rails... I know nothing about this type of weapon but after looking at AK's, M1A's and even the Ruger mini 14's I think this AR15 would be the best choice for me if I can get it like I want.
Can anyone share a couple web sites where I might find the best prices and information.
Thanks !

Re: AR web site help
A while back I wanted to build an A2 like you are talking about. It was hard to find a 20" barrel. Then I found this one. Out of stock but might help your search.

Sounds to me that this is what style you're looking for? http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/co ... key=AR15A4
Palmetto State Armory is a good source of upppers, but you have to watch out for their cheaper budget line. I like their "Premium" line with FN barrels, and their Cold Hammer Forged (CHF) line also uses FN barrels. Good quality for a reasonable price in those uppers. Building a lower is easy, and you can go with an A1 or A2 setup pretty easily. The biggest thing will be determining what length barrel you want to go with. Personally, all mine are 16 inch carbines, except for one 11.5 inch AR pistol I built.
Another good resource AR website is m4carbine.net
A lot of people will recommend ar15.com, but to me the noise to good information signal is too low there.

I built this one a few years ago, and have been happy with it. I bought parts as I found deals on them, and don't have too much $ in it.

Re: AR web site help
I built one of these a few months ago. I started with a stripped lower I got from AIM, got a parts kit with polished nickle trigger, Magpul MOE grip and A2 fixed stock and Ambi safety from Palmetto State Armory. Then I got a 20" HBAR A2 upper with fixed carry handle from Midway, actually I got two. I got one that was an Olympic Arms and one that was a DPMS. Both had the round A2 hand guards but there's a few places selling M16 triangular surplus hand guards including Sarco so I got a set of those and installed them on the Olympic Arms Upper and left the DPMS as it came so I have two rifles in one basically. Because both barrels are heavy barrels I had to do a little work on the front of the hand guards barrel channel to get them to fit the larger barrel but it wasn't that hard. I also got the tear drop forward assist just for grins. Here's a few pictures of it with the round hand guard and the triangular handguard. The other rifle in the picture on the table is the M4A3 Carbine I built at the same time. Three complete uppers and two complete lowers all totaled about $1500.

LPK's seem to be in very short supply right now.

Re: AR web site help
There's usually a bunch here. http://gun-deals.com/index.php?dealtype ... 3&subcat=6 Palmetto State has a bunch that go in and out of stock. Granite Ridge Outfitters also carries some from Palmetto and AIM for about the same price if the others are out.BuckeyeSgt wrote:LPK's seem to be in very short supply right now.
Re: AR web site help
I always build mine with the adjustable stock as the fixed one just doesn't fit my long arms well. arpartsfinder.com can be a good source for tracking down parts you just can't seem to find anywhere but usually misses any sales that are going on. Check JSE Surplus for parts, you can put together an LPK from individual parts which is real nice if you're going to go with an upgraded trigger group.

Re: AR web site help
Good deal. This is the kit I got for both of mine. http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-defe ... s-kit.html It's got a polished nickle trigger, Magpul MOE Ergo Grip, Ambi safety (I really like this) and everything else for $69.99. I think I got mine on sale for a bit less than that but I can't remember. The A2 stock I bought was a lower kit also and came with the classic lower parts kit and A2 grip so I can switch it if I really want it to look like an M16. The screw that comes with them is a bit long but that's not a big problem. I really just like the feel of the Magpul.

Palmetto State Armory, Primary Arms and DSG Arms have lower parts and build kits in stock.BuckeyeSgt wrote:LPK's seem to be in very short supply right now.

Thanks. This one has a FNH barrel 1:7 twist, and A2 handguard. Olympics arms stripped upper, and everything else DPMS.RazorBurn wrote:Very nice old school vibe there!millman wrote:I built this one a few years ago, and have been happy with it. Re: AR web site help
Brownell is a good place for uppers and lowers and small parts, Aim surplus has a nickel boron bolt for 99 bucks. Have over a thousand rounds on mine and no issues. Green Mountain has 20 in h-bar barrels.

Re: AR web site help
Anyone interested in an A2 Stock I just saw these for $35 each and $8.95 shipping. https://nordiccomp.com/categories/a2-butt-stock/ The same stock is $74.95+$8.50 shipping right now at Palmetto State Armory and $57.97+shipping at Eagle Armory. This is the cheapest I've seen these for a bit. I actually bought 2 of them. I'm thinking about putting another lower together for the other A2 Upper I have and the other one will be a spare or for a buddy if he decides he wants it.

Re: AR web site help
There aren't any AR's on that list that I would personally own except for the Palmetto Premium, but I have no idea if the seller is reputable or not. If I were looking for a good solid entry level AR then I would recommend the below Palmetto Premium setup links over a DPMS, Delton, etc... all day long.Jbob wrote:Thanks everyone !

If I were going to be one and done on an AR I would try to save up and buy a Colt LE6920 or AR6720 myself.
