M1917 Enfield safety lock cover

Post by berkmberk1 »

I am new to these rifles, and as usual, just like every other milsurp there is something new to learn how to do. I am inventorying the manufacturer marks to see what I need to replace to get it to 100%. I have most of it done but one of the last items to check is the safety lock cover. I have to remove it to check. From looking at diagrams, I know there is at least a plunger and a spring in there. Is there anything I need to know before I take the screw out and pull the cover off? I don't want to disassemble it, just pull the thing off, check it, and put it back. Can I pull it while still in the stock? It looks like it might not be possible.
