Front Sight Loose on Yugo M59
Front Sight Loose on Yugo M59
My friend and shooting buddy just bought a Yugo M59 on a bid and received it in the past week. The front sight seat is loosely fitting in the front sight base/bayonet lug. You can drift the sight left or right with your thumb. Is there any way to shim the seat to make it fit tighter in the sight base? Any help would be appreciated.

Shims can be made from a old soda or beer can. That or if you get it sighted in where it satisfies you, you can stake it with a metal punch.

Re: Front Sight Loose on Yugo M59
With the sight seat being round, I don't see being able to use the soda/beer can metal strip as being practical. I've shimmed Mosin Nagant sights, but that is more of a standard dovetail design which lends itself to a single shim. A circular shim may be tougher. Staking the sight may be possible. I'm just trying to advise the owner how to proceed. I know we have a ton of SKS experience on this forum and I welcome all suggestions. If it were my rifle, I would order a replacement part and hope it fits tighter in the sight base. Thanks for your response.Longcolt44 wrote:Shims can be made from a old soda or beer can.
