SVT 40 barrel thread

Post by dalek »

What is the thread diameter and pitch for the SVT 40 barrel? And, is it metric/SAE/Whitworth?

According to http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinSpec.htm, the Mosin uses 0.975" x16TPI, which makes me think it is really not SAE since it is 55 degrees (Whitworth), not 60. What about the SVT?

The SVT40 was a fully communist designed and built weapon, the communists embraced the metric system, probably better than the old arshins of the Czar, but yet another reason for me to prefer SAE.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Right you are: M24x1.5

Going on a tangent, I am curious why the communists decision to use metric made you prefer SAE.

Because SAE is what I learned as a child, it stuck, most everything I own is old enough to use SAE fasteners, Model T and A Fords, Victrola Acoustic phonographs, early US military weapons, and so on. Metric was always some other countries way of measuring shit, except the UK, imperial measurement's, they make working, or trying to work on some older British cars so ....interesting.
