Holy Grail Found! 1949 matching Russian.

Post by OLD OUTLAW »

A guy on another board found this one at a KC gunshow. Some pawn shop had it for sale cheap.
Is a refurb as all 49 seem to be. But, 100% original configuration. Stock is a replacement.
But that seems to be it. It appears this is only the second or possibly third known in this country.
Heaven only knows what the collector value is on this. Absolutely astonishing find!
It even retains the early thin stock!

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Interesting, I sold a '49 Tula on GB for my co-worker at the gun shop about 6 months ago.

Holy Cow !! I've really gotta try to get by there and see you guys more often. Did it have a blued spike bayo ? There are some other features and I can't recall what they all are. I think a hole in the top cover latch might be one, and maybe the shape of the gas block. I hope it did well at auction, a '49 spiker is both rare and valuable. Some that were previously unknown have been surfacing lately it seems.

It was in a laminate stock and had a regular blade bayonet.
